Ok so when is this Mexican Standoff expected to end ?
No one seems to want to budge, we know for definite the ANC wont budge. ASA and BOSA babbling incoherent **** over social media, trying to make people believe they still think the VAT thing will be scrapped and they knew exactly what they were doing.
It's all becoming a bit boring - get on with it already

Yup, why not just run a minority government at this point, with all the small parties helping them? That's what everyone thought was most likely in the run-up to the elections...

Collaborative governance is the way indeed. But South Africa needs constitutional governance statecraft. Without such we will continue to be doomed to failure dear Minister John Steenhuisen. Growth and jobs per se will not take us to where the Constitution wants us to go. We have had that before and look where that got us, the most unequal society in the world and an economy trapped in its colonial architecture and consequent strictures.

I wish Thuli could elaborate, what kind of Constitutional statecrafting is she referring to, NHI, BELA, EWC, etc?

Since this budget debacle I've been thinking this same thing... it seems the ANC just want to make the rules and bring everything to the table and everyone else must just accept it without any opposition or query. Not all parties will always agree on everything, that's just stupid, so because the DA is against certain aspects it's not good, then why bother... they're suppose to find compromises then without always being threatened. Many parties in this GNU have no backbone to stand up against the ANC.

It seems the ANC wants to rule the roost and everyone else must fall in line... then why even have other parties in the mix, they might as well just dissolve and all be called the ANC as well if they can't have their own voice. Even a 1% party can come up with a good idea. This GNU is only race driven in its decisions against a certain party, and not through common sense and logic.

At the end of the day the citizens of this country is vucked by this GNU with poor decisions... they will ultimately reap what they sow.

I know she has echoed RET rhetoric for years now, but I do wonder where it came from, as she seemed to be one of the good ones when releasing the state capture report. Maybe it was that stupid daughter of hers who is a known EFF activist.

Maneuvering behind the scenes is already taking place and several potential successors have been informally approached, the people said. But none are willing to come out against Steenhuisen.


The front-runner is viewed as Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, but he will only consider contesting the role if Steenhuisen declares he won’t seek re-election, the people said. Other names being touted include former Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink and Siviwe Gwarube, the basic education minister.
