Actually comes from Greek.
dēmokratía

This is what the Greek Socrates thought of democracy:

Socrates was critical of democracy, believing that only those who are educated and knowledgeable should participate in decision-making, rather than allowing everyone to vote regardless of their understanding. He argued that democracy could lead to demagoguery and poor governance, as uneducated voters might be easily swayed by persuasive but misleading rhetoric.

Does his thinking still fit?

The concept comes from Ancient Greece hence the adaptation of the ancient Greek term across multiple languages.

The Afrikaans and Dutch word is exactly the same. Thus it arrived with Jan.

Don't come with those history tendencies, its still Jans fault

No idea, why don't you ask Zille? Apparently she is fluent in Xhosa.
Why must I ask her anything? Be a man, and answer my question.

Don't be a small boy and hide behind Gogo while you complain about her day and night...
