1994 - 1999 - Mandela
1999 - 2008 - Mbeki

The common thread? GEAR and Trevor Manuel.
Between 1994 and 2008, notwithstanding other issues and Mbeki's own missteps, SA was still relatively functional and had actual economic growth.

And guess what? GEAR is a lot closer to the current DA economic policy than it is to the ANC's. Make of that what you will.

Actually if you do proper analysis

Change in Cycles in finance are generally driven by policies put in place 5 to 10 years before. It is not that thing just suddenly get better. It gets better because something was change a while in advance and the effects are only seen much later

While they say they created jobs, did they create jobs fast enough to counteract the increase people coming into the job pool
If you look at the unemployment graph things got better between 1995 to 2008. A lot of this is when ANC took over and was the darling of foreign companies that then invested in South Africa. The rapid deterioration in the unemployment rate started in 2009. This would have been due to policies introduced 5 to 10 years before that. So 1999 to 2004.
Right when Mbeki took over. I would arguably say that his presidency was really bad for teh country and started the decline
Notably BEE was legislated in 2003.
I would argue that BEE is one of the causes of unemployment explosion due to its effect in drowning the economy.
This is also a reason that even if you see a miraculious change in policy tomorrow the positive effects will only start to be seen 5 to 10 years down the line. In the last few years the ANC and co have been actively working to remove the reasons for the gains in 1995 to 2008. Their policies have been actively forcing companies to disinvest in SA

This is one reason why I take teh piss out of Champy and Malcom when they posts pictures of sudden immediate improvements in places when their favourite take over. In a capital intensive budgeting system those budgets would have been done and approved 2 or 3 years before for the funds to be available now. So either the predecessors started making the funds available or the new incumbents have been crooking the books to make it happen. Something that will come out in the future with audit findings and irregular expenditure

So even if the DA wins , 6 months after you will have people like Champy and Malkom chanting , but things havent improved....
That is because they come from the 30% arena that are not able to understand how long it takes to fix other people's f ups
