SA Politics Thread Part 11: The GNU Normal

I wonder why some on this forum seem to hide their vague accusations and see the need to belittle other members when they cannot answer questions or when the questions expose flawed thinking?
Belittling? No. Just ridiculous that this little exchange is still continuing. I hoped the matter would be settled when I pointed out the aliases don't belong to the same person.

Again, how would you know unless you know them and their aliases personally?
Your question was framed on false premise. The 2 gentlemen do post at the same time from time to time. It's one of the reasons I responded.

What would be the point of a 2nd account for thechamp if he already freely posts stuff that annoys some people on the forum? People here don't have the same life experiences so there's always going to be differences in opinions and conflicts.

  • The ad hoc committee probing Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s allegations is one step closer to adopting its terms of reference.
  • The ANC looks set to keep a firm grip on the witnesses who are likely going to appear before the committee.
  • The party has made a raft of proposals on how witnesses will be interacting with the committee.

The ANC appears to want full control of how parliamentarians will question witnesses before the ad hoc committee investigating KwaZulu-Natal top cop Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s allegations of criminal infiltration in the justice system.

The party’s proposals give committee chairperson Soviet Lekganyane full control of question time limits, and the sequence in which witnesses will be called.

Another crucial proposal the ANC has made is that the evidence before the committee be used as a basis to establish the approach the committee will take on the appropriate witnesses to be invited.

Added to this, is that the National Assembly’s legal services office will present the evidence of witnesses to the committee.

The ad hoc committee met on Thursday to determine its terms of reference.

ANC MP Khusela Diko led the ANC’s proposals.

“The National Assembly’s Constitutional Legal Services Office will present the evidence of witnesses to the committee. The chairperson shall be empowered to determine the sequencing in which witnesses are called to give evidence. Witness questioning is to be subjected to reasonable limitations at the instance of the chairperson. The chairperson may impose time limits, put a stop to irrelevant and repetitive questions,” the ANC submission reads.

MK Party (MKP) MP David Skosana warned that the witness list should not be completely pre-approved.

“The external legal counsel should not displace us as members. They can advise us on the way of questioning, but members must control the scope of the process, and it should be transparent. We need to be very precise with witnesses and how [to] deal with them,” he said.

EFF MP Leigh-Ann Mathys said all of the party’s proposals were captured and the red berets were “happy”.

The EFF wants the committee to invite witnesses, including those who are incarcerated, to submit a sworn written statement and to, thereafter, appear before it.

Party leader Julius Malema said the committee should come together to decide who it wants to invite to testify.

“Let us collectively say that ‘these are the names we want to come’, and we work from there,” he said.

The IFP made no submission on witnesses.

It was the DA’s proposal that the committee invite all persons identified by it as witnesses to submit a sworn written statement and appear before it.

“The committee may invite any interested parties to provide input if they wish to do so. In the event that an invited witness refuses to submit a sworn statement and avail themselves as requested, the committee may use its power of subpoena. All witnesses will be requested to submit their sworn written statements, including any supporting evidence, within at least seven working days,” the DA submission reads.

Lekganyane said there were outstanding submissions from the MKP and ActionSA.

MPs across the political divide agreed that the committee should urgently start its work.

MKP MP Sibonelo Nomvalo proposed that the committee meet on Monday to deliberate further and decide when it will start its investigative work.

Malema requested that the committee meet in person and stressed that the terms of reference be completed before the committee starts its investigative work.

Parties are expected to receive a full document to look at all proposals and submissions while Parliament’s legal service considers whether they are feasible.

The committee is expected to meet on Monday.

Where did I say it was a second account? This was my question:

Why does @TheChamp go missing when @MalcomZ starts commenting?

You assumed I said it was a second account. I didn't. Read my question again.

South African learners consistently struggle with reading comprehension, performing poorly in both international and local assessments.

In your haste, you missed one crucial word. "Implied"

Either way, I shared what I wanted to share. You're welcome to post anything you wish from this point on. If you need anything, I'm a few taps away.

Cheers man.

What a s show.
A rogue army general
A idiot water minister
A high jacked national dialog
And a silenced parliment enquiry

Wouldn't call it hijacked, it was always an anc election campaign at taxpayers expense.

At least it looks as if the taxpayer is having the last laugh it seem.

Another stupid, useless conference/imbizo in which many intelligent suggestions and improvements will be advanced by different people.

But it will be all for nothing, because as usual the ANC will ignore all advice and do what they were going to do anyway, as they always do.

This sort of thing has been done how many times and the outcome is always the same - the ANC ignores everything and continues on as if nothing happened.

What a waste of time.

I am really struggling to understand the idea behind this national dialog apart from the ANC trying to do electioneering.

We all know what our problems are, a corrupt government, crime, poverty, inequality, unemployment, lack of service delivery, low economic growth, racism, the list goes on.

The criminals are not going to become saints, the rich are not going to give away their wealth to the poor, the ANC is not going become less corrupt, our unions are will not be less militant, the farmers is not going to give land away without a fight, Juliaas will continue singing "KIll the Boer" and jobs will not start growing on trees.

So what next?

What exactly would she be fired for?
Circumventing what DIRCO and the presidency said was exclusively within their mandate, without their approval.

Did she get permission from the president to approve his travel to Iran on a diplomatic mission? Why is an army general, of a bankrupt army, travelling the world on money the army doesn't have anyway. He also went to Cuba and France recently...
