The promotions list is out. SA now has 1 General for every 157 soldiers. The most generals in the world. Generals are paid 20 times more than the lowest paid soldier.

Me: Laughs in Khmer :laugh: Where did you pull that stat out of?

I don't know. Maybe context matters? I'm not defending the appointments.

ANC Secretary-General wants experience rule scrapped for entry-level work - IOL

ANC secretary-general, Fikile Mbalula, has called for the abolition of job experience requirements in recruitment, urging unemployed South Africans to report employers who demand experience for entry-level work.

His remarks come amid growing frustration among young job seekers who say experience clauses shut them out of the labour market before their careers even begin.

Addressing a community gathering in Madibeng, North West, on Thursday, Mbalula said that insisting on experience for first jobs was a barrier to opportunity.

“Young people finish their education and seek work only to be told they don’t qualify because they lack experience,” he said.

“I am saying young people must work, they will get experience at work. This thing of blocking young people because of experience must come to an end.”

While I actually don't disagree with fear Fokol on this point.. The reality is we have a problematic job market and companies can ask for experience because there are enough candidates who do have it so they don't have to train someone from the ground up to do a basic job.

The anc destroyed the education system to a level where even a basic job requires extensive training and education. Companies ask for experience or proof of training so they don't have to spend months upskilling and sifting through untrainable employees.
This is a big reason for all of these training institutes offering short courses etc so there is some proof of a certain level of understanding/education.

Largely agree on this yeah.

This is a mess of the ancs making, at least in scale.

The experience thing isn't new though, even when I left school in the bad old days it was already an issue but to a much smaller scale and you could work around it relatively easily.

Related to South Africa, Paul Warburg makes the case that Ukraine's successful war against the Russia has weakened it so much that it, could not, 1. Intervene in Syria. 2. Intervene in Iran. 3. Intervene in Venezuela. The loss of the Venezuelan shadow fleet through which Russia disposed off some of their oil - mixing it with Venezuelan and incurring a less strict sanction regime is now gone and Russia now has to rely on inflation to pay for their war. In short Russia is showing to be an unreliable partner and security provider. The Russian multi polar world is falling apart. And here should South Africa not be studying the tea leaves? Because Ramaphosa's multi-polarity is not working out and it will become weaker and weaker. Heck we may even see the breakup of Russia ultimately. Is this the time to antagonize the States?

Internships still exist, but some entry level jobs require 1 to 3 years post internship experience. He may be referring to these.
Not to the degree that was arround before 1994
Iscor/Telkom(post office)/Railways/Eskom as did most of the gov/soe's had massive apprenticeship programs running.

It gave them cheap labour that was semi skilled after the 1st year.

Now all companies (listed) and gov have experience and bee as the job requirements. Nothing to do with internship as that is very scarce now

Telkoms old training center , that is no longer used for that. They had a few properties in the area for the center. 500+ new students every year

SA? Read the tea leaves and come to a logical answer? Unlikely.

We honestly don't really need to do much other than be properly non-aligned and stop pissing on the West like its some kind of fun game with no consequences.

But the ANC seems to have some inflated image of where it stands in the world and thinks it knows best so its unlikely we'll do the right thing for the citizens of the country.

But Ramaphosa is doubling down and saying that we (we!!!) are with the people of Venezuela and that the UN Security Council must follow its mandate. :) Release the dictator criminal now!!!!1

The people of Venezuela need their illegal dictator back!!! Who will oppress them as well?

:)

Cyril is a bit slow at getting things sometimes, give him 10 years and a few commissions and maybe he'll get on the same page as everyone else.

But when did the internships stop?
Because of decisions made post 1994 dahhhh.
Cost management was one, ie needed more money for corruption
Lack of short term view , versus long term benefits
Same reason we ended up with power issues

When you say "not to the degree that was around before 94", what exactly do you mean? Are we taking into account the fact that companies were downsizing due to implementation of better technologies? Suddenly, the workplace wasn't as labour intensive as it was before, and incentive to train and retain technical staff waned. Add to that the fact that one could get experienced people from neighbouring countries at a fraction of cost of training and acquiring local talent.

Telkom's needs changed partly as a result of these changes. Same can be said about others.

Of course ANC governments made spectacularly terrible decisions along the way but to blame this solely on them is a little disingenuous.
