That's sweet apartheid deal he had, but I am sure he still wakes up every day axnd moan about 147 race laws.

Pity that sweet Apartheid deal was instituted in the New Democracy, and likely under an ANC controlled municipality.

30 years takes us back to 1995. Plenty of old guard still around then.

Although a few took advantage of new politicians who weren't clued up about how things worked either.... let's see who signed the lease.

Apparently its a 1996 lease so its an ANC problem since they had been voted into power by that point.

Probably should go ask Johannes about it.

I will hedge my bets until we know who was Municipal Manager when the lease was signed. Google isn't helping

Situation would be similar to how innocent Hansie was given no option but to throw the matches. He stood no chance in front of corrupt mafia.

AI doesn't always get it right

Dr TT took over in 2001. Early to mid 90's would still have been apartheid era MM's. Most were only replaced a good few years later

Damn took over April 2001 and suspended in Jan 2003 🤣

The replacements were also suspended. The cadres were cadring from the early days, it must be Brink's fault...

Who is Dr Thoahlane Thoahlane

  • Thoahlane was the CEO of the National Development Agency (NDA) in South Africa. The Mail & Guardian
  • The NDA is a government agency established by an Act of Parliament, which channels government and donor funding to non-profit organisations (NPOs) for activities such as poverty relief, early childhood development, adult education, land reform, etc. The Mail & Guardian

Tenure, Issues & Departure

  • He held the CEO post for less than a year. The Mail & Guardian
  • During his time there, many problems were raised:
    • NGOs accused the agency of disbursing very little of the funds it had access to (less than 10% of R340 million) in that period. The Mail & Guardian
    • Significant staff turnover: about 25% of the staff resigned, citing issues such as mismanagement. The Mail & Guardian
    • Complaints included racism, sexism, poor management style, and that he lacked adequate expertise in development work. The Mail & Guardian
  • His departure was sudden, and the NDA board requested his resignation. Some reports say he was summoned from the United States while on holiday and asked to resign. The Mail & Guardian
  • There was also mention of a settlement demand: he apparently asked for 5 times his annual NDA salary as severance. If successful, this might have been around R2.5 million. The Mail & Guardian

Other Official Roles / Positions

  • There are archival notices referring to a Dr T. E. Thoahlane, who is or was City Manager / Municipal Manager in Tshwane / Centurion, in Gauteng. Open Gazettes South Africa+3Open Gazettes South Africa+3Open Gazettes South Africa+3
  • For example, in 2001‐2002, notices in provincial gazettes show “Dr T. E. Thoahlane, City Manager” associated with town planning scheme amendments in Tshwane / Centurion. Open Gazettes South Africa+2Open Gazettes South Africa+2
  • It is unclear (from what I found) whether the “Dr T. E. Thoahlane, City Manager, Tshwane / Centurion” is the same person as Dr Thoahlane Thoahlane who was CEO of NDA (though the name similarity suggests a strong possibility). There may be different individuals or overlapping roles.

Summary

In short, Dr Thoahlane Thoahlane is a figure who held leadership in a major governmental agency (the NDA). His tenure was controversial, with significant criticism from NGOs and staff for low disbursement of funds, leadership issues, and organizational dysfunction. Prior or in parallel, there are records of a Dr T. E. Thoahlane in municipal administration.

It's only ANC cadres who can be left behind, National Party and DA cadres perish as soon as their parties are out of power, totally no staying power.
