Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia has revealed that nearly R2.5 billion could be spent on VIP protection services for the president and his Cabinet ministers in the 2026/2027 financial year.

In a written parliamentary reply, Cachalia indicated that R2.2 billion (R2 291 016 000) was spent on VIP protection for government officials during the 2024/2025 financial year by the South African Police Service (Saps)

Necessary spend, you can't have the VIPs having to mingle with the dirty unwashed masses you know.

He's only leaving because he lost his cushy job

If he was still Minister, announced his resignation from Parly and left the DA saying all this then I might have given him some credibility

Now it's all just sour grapes
Is Steenhuisen not vulnerable and beholden to his job in cabinet because of his financial situation?

Your sour or sweet grapes argument doesn't talk to the point he us making.

I am saying he is only making this point because he lost his job

Steenhuisen is a **** who will sell his mother out if it gained him something. I don't need some has been politician making like a virgin mary to tell me this

So no I am not about to give Dicks any brownie points

So, Steenhuizen is as vulnerable as uBaba was?
Sure he would scoff at the seemingly ridiculous idea, but he is on the same path, the lifestyle he was bankrolling with the party credit card is still there, now that the credit card is gone, money is still needed to fill the void, he will be beholden to whoever supplies it.

In other news, Cyril is known to give money to opposition politicians in their times of need, of course with no expectations of anything in return.

Kind of expected it TBH. He's not part of the Steenhuisen faction and Steenhuisen is going to win in April, so he'd have to possibly wait another 5 years to be promoted again. His career was effectively over in the DA.
not so sure about steenhuizen winning in april.

he has created a huge credibility problem in being found guilty of the very things he constantly accused anc members of.
for now he seems a bit of a lame duck - one that has created all manner of problems for his party, along with the perception of being captured & corrupt.

They didn't figure that one out when he snatched up someone else's wife?

The way the DA made the credit card thing disappear, I would say he might win, look at the speed it was investigated with and resolved simply by paying back the money, they are going out of their way to accommodate him, which means he is on the right side of the powers that be.
