SA Post Office CEO

A very refreshing article/interview with the SAPO CEO. I wish we saw more of this honest journalism in SA…

Quite an Interesting article indeed. Does not seem like she is in any hurry to do something about the problem...Bye Bye Amazon

So how difficult can it be to solve this problem?

All parcels coming from overseas should have an RFID tag sprayed on and are then tracked by pass-through scanners at every point where they are handled. Problem solved, or at least they would know where, and exactly when, things disappear.
Anything that takes more than 24 hours (less depending on the turnaround strategies) from entry to exit in a pass-through point, and from point-to-pont, is investigated.

More useless baggage in a public department.

Ye this is typical not only at Government level, but at local level where Political appointments have been made in positions especially as head of Departments or Local Government Companies such as the ones in the Joburg Council and they have no clue how to run them. Due to the fact that they are not qualified to run them - their qualifications have no bearing on their position.

As a result these companies are loosing dozens of experienced employees and are starting to collapse and services are starting to fail ala Zimbabwe and Mugabe and his cronies.

Eskom is another example where experienced employees have resigned and after all the profits and bonuses paid there getting a huge increase from the public?

Perhaps we should start boycotting payments for no service delivery

Fire the head of SAPO before its too late and the other heads who don't perform

Thank you for your service in the past, Post Office, but fortunately I have been warned of what I can expect in future. She throws around the word "accountability", but I wonder if the CEO knows what it means? I will not make use of your services anymore.

The only thing that matters now is .... Are you clearly being seen in the Zuma camp? Nothing else matters. It's now a struggle to raise one's flag highest as a Zuma supporter ... meaning some idiots will say idiotic things just to have his/her flag raised highest. If the ANCYL leadership says they'll kill 100 people for Zuma, then Vavi will say he'll kill 1000 for Zuma.

The result of this is a state of limbo ... no decisions, no action, no progress. We now live in a national leadership vacuum. And yes, it affects even the PO. The nation is in limbo.

Strong - but levelheaded - leadership is urgently needed. Only then will the likes of the PO be under pressure to perform.

have always enjoyed Chris Barron's 'interviewing style', quite similar to that of BBC's HardTalk.

This is a brilliant article on the sheer incompetence of government appointed individuals who are just as disconnected with reality as the rest of the politicians.

I was just wondering if the SA Post Office CEO can spell. How about " THICK AS A BRICK " I doubt if she has anything between her ears. Probably spent all her years learning to spell " ACCOUNTABILITY". Knows how to spell it but unfortunately doesn't know the meaning of it.

with someone with such a large education background, one would think they would 'know better'

I say, have someone investigate their so called qualifications, i refuse to believe that someone with such a vast tertiary education can be so dim & incompetant.

welcome to Africa where mediocrity is in most cases 'a bridge too far'. :o

Awesome article. Wish they had the video version available.

She says she had “no inkling” that Amazon had problems with the service they were getting

Groan. Another completely inept person in charge.

Wake up and get with the times moron!!!

“We need to look at this problem holistically.”

WTF! Is that another new word you learnt?!

And still she’s saying things like, “We need to look at this problem holistically”.

Eish! Guess that answers that question!

The problem with BEE targets and rewarding them is exactly this type of thing. Company is forced by law to have x% pink unicorns as employees, but there aren't enough competent pink unicorns to fill the positions. Unfortunately said laws also punish those who do not comply, especially in government organizations, so no blue unicorns (who are increasingly unemployed) are appointed. The result is endless inefficiency, and of course hilarity ensues. Then of course when you point out that perhaps more blue unicorns should be employed, because the pink ones are doing a crappy job, you get branded with a big ole racist iron with people going "neener, neener" and doing the classic L shape on their foreheads.

As with her predecessors, she knows the jargon and has read many of the right books. Indeed, she is currently reading In Pursuit of Excellence by some American management guru.

"In Pursuit of Excellence" - that's a laugh - I wonder what Le***a's definition of excellence is? Chris Barron cornered her in this interview by asking who in the SAPO, had been held to account. She didn't know because it was a new buzz word that she's just learnt and is still struggling to understand its meaning. While she's about it, Le***a should try and get to grips with the meaning of "shameless".

"It is not only what we do,
but also what we do not do,
for which we are accountable."
Moliere

Now all you are going to hear is the other favorite word E. "Mechanism"
