No wonder
No wonder the CEO of the SA postal service talks as if in denial. I do not know the CEO, but I have just been affected by the theft in the SA postal service. It is most likely an inside job. My family in the US mailed me a package for Christmas. I guess they shouldn't have put "all the eggs in one basket." There was nothing electronic, only clothes and clothing accessories- things for our unborn child, my husband and myself. Gifts from people in the town for the baby, as well. It cost over $150 just to ship it. According to the post office in Menlo Park Pretoria, the package arrived there on 29 Nov. It was signed for and collected by someone with an Eastern European or Russian surname on 30 Nov. We had not even received the notification slip that it had arrived by 30 Nov. You have to have the tracking number to collect the package, but you do not have to have the notification slip. You have to show ID, but your name doesn't have to match the name of the intended recipient. That makes a lot of sense in crime-ridden South Africa. My family bought things for the baby that I cannot afford. Now I have nothing, and they have spent their money in vain. I am not a South African citizen, but I am carrying a child who will be. He hasn't even been born yet and has already been affected by the crime here. And, may I mention, it's difficult enough to be away from your family during the holidays, and now I can't even exchange presents with them because everything may be stolen. JoyofAfrica is not joyful to be in Africa. Not at all.
