SA Post Office has high expectations for its ecommerce platform

The SA Post Office (SAPO) expects ecommerce and financial services to become a big portion of its revenue by 2030, with its internal predictions suggesting that only 20% of its revenue will come from its postage services by this date.

This is according to SAPO CEO Mark Barnes, who was speaking to Ron Derby on radio station Power 98.7.

Bwahahaha Mark... get the basics right and stop trying to build some competitor to Alibaba or think that the Post Office can ever export more than it imports....

delusion of grandeur,

first get packages to arrive in the same Century they were sent in, then focus on having something as competitive as Postnet/Fedex/DHL.

those companies thriving, due to you not being able to do your own job for decades.

i still have almost 30 parcels ordered in 2014 that haven't arrived yet.
Was just before the JHB Post Office went on that loooong strike
Before that everything i ordered from eBay always arrived.
I stopped using eBay many years ago now and rather buy from overseas using a freighting company
Costs more but i dont care, i get my stuff
I will never ever in a million years support SAPO again

I have started using Banggood again, purely because they now courier the stuff using Buffalo.... it never touches SAPO's hands. Orders generally take 2 or 3 weeks to arrive now, and the tracking is accurate these days.

Also its slightly more expensive than the Post, but not horribly so. Seems to top out at around $4 + the stupid customs charges you would normally have paid to SAPO

Ordered a lock in Feb, still not here - apparently arrived at the post office last week, but I have to wait for the slip (Big Bay are terrible)... that's over three months, and they've apparently caught up on the backlog.

Stop flogging that dead horse - SAPO is a zombie business that needs to be put down.

Due to SAPO’s access to all South African addresses, Barnes also believes in the potential for “virtuous data mining capacity within the Post Office”.

I hope to fck Barnes gets approval from all the SAPO customers first before he gives their data out. You know POPI and all

The post office won't be here in 2030.

The private industry already replaced it.
