SAPO money wasting uncovered

An investigation of the SA Post Office (Sapo) has uncovered fruitless, wasteful and irregular expenditure involving hundreds of millions of rands, the Sapo board said on Monday.

I think what would be more news worthy is if they had to actually find a government department/entity that ran smoothly without any corruption or wasteful and irregular expenditure.

I ordered something last Wednesday and paid the dealer an extra R30 for 'speed services' delivery. It hasn't arrived yet (Monday). They tell me the 'plane was delayed' ???
The tracking feature was down when I phoned SS. They can't tell me where it is. Gofigure.

Having said that, I dont think Supaswift/Fedex are any better. They have their own challenges.

I like this "irregular procurement" but not unlawful!
Meaning par for the course as with all guvamunt departmunts!

If the service just worked well, I actually wouldn't mind a little "irregular expenditure", TBH. If parcels arrived speedily and intact and tracking worked as intended, I'd be satisfied. Alas...

Try to actually track a parcel through the post office - the system has been broken for some time now. So my item has still not arrived almost a week later (Speed Services) and I or they can't track it.

I have NEVER received any package meant to be delivered by the post office (at least 15+ items). So obviously I use couriers exclusively now and have never had a problem.

It is kind of ironic. A lot of corporates waste money, some of them more than SAPO. and all they do is transfer the cost by hiking costs of products and services. So I don't see the hype about this.

You don't see the hype of your tax money being wasted? Alot of big corporates contribute to the tax base, the Post Office does not - it's a government entity that uses tax money to function. We don't have unlimited resources and we are in the poo poo in alot of ways in this country. Wasting tax money on the post office is terrible.

NOT SO......

The govt provides subsidies for ensuring SAPO meets the mandate in address provision for the rural areas. Last time i check, SAPO was running as a business, at a profit. Not forgetting Postbank, which is a subsidiary, has been granted a banking license.....

These are NOT funded by the tax payer !!!!

Govt has actually granted another subsidy to assist in opening up new post offices, and bringing technology ( postal services, banking, etc )to the masses that never had access before.
