SA Post Office Strike

Just for info I received my parcel yesterday, ordered from a U.S. Supplier on October 1 - made its way to Durban eventually

I ordered an item online from the states. The item was $55 and FedEx Express Air cost me $59. The item left San Diego last week Tuesday and arrived in the Durban FedEx depot yesterday morning - delivery is scheduled for tomorrow. I personally will never use SAPO again to send domestic parcels - for that I'll rather use PostNet's counter-to-counter option for R100...

Postnet uses SAPO for their counter to counter option. (Speed Services)

I have seen this one guy that works at the Rosebank Mall Postnet dropping off and collecting Speed Services parcels at the Rosebank Mall Post Office a number of times.

No they dont. I recently (during the strike) sent two parcels between Durban and Rustenburg and they only took 2-3 days. Based on the tracking info they use CourierIT...

+1
They use any of the services which is cheap AND gets the job done! SAPO has lost out big time. Their good name is trashed now. People and businesses will avoid them like the plague.

Unfortunately there's no proper alternative for international parcels. Can't afford to pay the $50 couriers like FedEx extort from us for a $10 item. SAPO hasn't really lost out on anything and their geographic coverage is unbeatable.

You can get a postnet box and have mail forwarding enabled (from sapo to postnet). Postnet will also send off and collect parcels on your behalf. Have a friend that has this option since he has a postnet office close by.

Ahh. OK.
Thanks.

Sigh. Does anyone know how long it will take an expedited item to clear Johannesburg International after going through customs? My parcel cleared and was back "From Customs" on Dec 29th :/

Couple of days at the most, but with christmas backlog could be more.
