SA Post Office Strike

I got a parcel sent from the US via USPS on the 10th December. Arrived 21 Jan. 6 weeks! I am blessed! I thought it was lost for sure

I also received some parcels. One last week that was ordered in july/august last year and another 2 parcels received this week that were ordered in September

You're lucky.
I ordered a package from the us at a similar time and it has still not even been scanned into the country.

EMS from Taiwan:

Incomming international: 21 January
Left Taiwan: 8 January

EMS is the new airmail.

EMS also takes months when the SA Post Office is on strike.

And I have had EMS stuff stolen out of JIMC.

At the HEIGHT of the strikes the EMS to Cape Town took about 2 weeks. For JHB I dunno, for Cape Town, it's about 2 weeks.

Guys, any idea what "held by customs" is supposed to mean?

"Held" as in they have a backlog and the parcel has yet to be seen to, or "held" as in they need an invoice of some sort before releasing it?

It's just a replacement power cable for a laptop.

What does it say there:

If it's "Record customs item information" as the last item or with in transit after that, then yeah they want an invoice.

How about three months ?

Thankfully I'm in Cape Town. Our stuff still works a bit. JHB is totally st-ffed.

However it's telling how EMS has gone down the cr-pper.

In 2000 EMS would take 3 days - you'd have your item posted on Tuesday and it was delivered Fri/Thursday. And the customs people were more lenient. Now we're at two weeks.

Now we're stuck and SARS wants to rip us off as much as possible. Not only do they screw up the power and labour and so cause the Rand to lose 30% to the Dollar, they now want more of that cash as customs fees/VAT etc. It's injustice but the constitution is not going to help you. Gotta suck it up, or better immigrate and take everything with you.
