SA ranked 34th in IT index

SA has moved from 37th place to 34th place in the World Economic Forum's (WEF's) Networked Readiness Index, although it has lost the top spot in Africa.

That point should be used to hammer Telkom in every future press release.

imagine what we could do if there was competition and fair pricing and practices

sigh

I think they are calling it a victory, moved up 3 spots. Great job telkom (btw im sarcastic)

I'm in no way defending Telscum here but I think it is quite impressive with our monopolistic situation that we that far up.

But as Dom said, imagine where we would be with competition and fair pricing.

34th is better than 37 th,

If we can improve 3 placing every year ,in 5 years time ,it will be significant .

Although SA has improved in the rankings, and maintains dominance in sub-Saharan Africa, it has lost the top spot among the 23 African countries covered by the index. Tunisia, which held the 40th position last year, has moved up to 31st place.

It is not immediately clear from the executive summary of the report why Tunisia was ranked higher than SA.
It is actually good news whichever way you look at it - yes SA moved closer to the creme de la creme at the top, and yes Tunisia is closer than we are, but Tunisia now serves as an example of a fellow African country that our government needs to take some pointers from.
