Hi guys

Are you also experiencing a problem accessing SA sites like news24 or iol? Even ITWeb is a problem...

From Hetzner :-

Dear Hetzner Africa Client
At about 02:00 on Sunday, 12 December 2004, Telkom proceeded with planned maintenance on a portion of their network. The nature of maintenance rendered the SA UUNET network inaccessible for clients connecting via a Telkom/SAIX based service. By implication, Hetzner Africa's network was also not accessible via a Telkom connectivity route.

By 07:00 access had not been restored and Hetzner Africa's TPOC was informed that unanticipated technical problems carried maintenance beyond the planned schedule. At 08:00 Hetzner Africa returned voice messages and opened the help desk to address incoming email and telephone queries.

At 11:10 we noticed that traffic flows between the SAIX and UUNET networks had been restored. The help desk was closed at 11:30.

While Hetzner Africa had no control over the technical breakdown, we do apologise for any inconvenience to our clients.

Your Hetzner Africa Team.

I must say, I like Hetzner - what other hosting company would bother to get hold of thier clients on a Sunday at 1pm ?
Plus I get reseller prices and only host 8 clients.

I'd recommend them to anyone looking for 99.9% reliable service - if only more South African companies took notice - oh wait, Hetzner are German owned ;)

I've never even heard of Hetzner, but their proactive reaction & service is exactly what Telkom, Sentech & other bad boys (& gals) are missing by in-action.

I'd never heard of them either until I had to move clients from a dedicated hosting server at my old company - saw an add in a magazine and decided to give them a try. Been with them for 8 months - excellent service. They don't miss a beat.

I find it amusing that I discover from my hosting company what the problem was and not from my ISP ! (Telkom) - then again, I don't use the Telkom email address I was supplied with, so maybe they sent an email to me - dunno - dought it tho.
