SA unemployment falls

Do they provide their definition of "employed"?
 
Yes 77% of all South Africans are employed. Only 15% of all Mozambiquans, Zimbabweans and Nigerians are employed.

There are far too many foreign aliens causing this huge crime wave. If indeed the employment rate is what it is, where are all the poor coming from? I can tell you it is not South Africa!
 
How many are under-employed?

Car guards, ah too many to list. You get what I am saying. ;)

I read this morning that ABSA is looking to recruit 20000 people working as credit councellors, direct sales agents, debt collectors, etc... So yes I do believe there's been a reduction in uneployment. The growing black middle class is indirectly opening numerous job opportunities...e.g. asset proccessing. Many of such people never had to apply for bonds or vehicle finance but now they can afford and the backlog is mounting with every passing day....If it wasn't for Eskom and their problems we would probably see even a larger growth in employment...

Unfortunately it's not the foreigners causing out crime problem. It's the local SA guys too.
I've been held up by just as many foreigners as local representatives.

Thinking otherwise is delusional and it helps foster Xenophobia.

unfortunately they are also making our countries credit/debt record, the worst in the world.

"Persons aged 15–65 who did any work or who did not work but had a job or business in the seven days prior to the survey interview". The sample base for this survey was 30 000 households. The 23% unemployment rate is a percentage of unemployed to the existing labour force. The population of working age (persons aged 15–65 ) is 30 million so taking employed as a percentage of that and you will have a rate of 43.5%.

I suppose that there are many reasons why people of working age, do not work and are not counted as being unemployed. Richer households might be able to survive on just one breadwinner. Or maybe they fall under the group of discouraged work-seekers: persons who want to work and are available to work but who say that they are not actively looking for work.
 
Mbeki must be rejoicing after this news, since this is another argument he can use to beef up the motivation for his rule.

"Employment is down, which means the economy is growing, which means SA is faring well, which is good"
