SA vs Denmark

Sweet. That's not too shabby. Without penalties too.

Despite my misgivings I find myself wishing for Bafana to do so much better. I am starting to think they may be able to do it ;)

This is good.. I am glad for bafana, its a good boost of confidence for them too! We are doing a lot better than before, hopefully they can pull through!

Well Bafana, good game.

Good on job on beating the teams that are ranked above us!

:) booya! Bring on the world cup!

Still don't think Bafana can go all the way but after today, the boys have shown that they can stand toe to toe with the bigger sides. I love the fact that Bafana are doing so well, I would love to see them beat the cr@p out of France and win their group. But before we get ahead of ourselves we need to remember that the Danes have had a very bad warm up and it could be that we caught them with very poor confidence. Still awesome though.:)

Glad to see the boys playing full on attacking football even though they scored, so many times they score and then go have tea and cake on the other side of the field.

Lets hope they arent like the proteas and no choking, altho we are underdogs which is a good thing.

I'm starting to think that maybe, just maybe, we can make it past the first round.

I still think mexico gna be tough, really tough.I think we can maybe push for a draw,i always thought mexico was gna be the 1 game we could win,but i think we may have a better chance against uruguay or france. We need at least a point in the first game.

Agreed, Mexico is playing well, and France are playing poorly. Who knows though, anything can happen and I'd love to see the boys hammering everyone in the group.

If we reach teh semi's the game will be in durban i think ;p
I hope i didnt jinx it.

Each team has 2 paths to the final, 1 for winning their group and 1 for coming 2nd. SA's path is likely to be, 2nd in group, R16 in JHB (SC), quarter in CT, and semi in Durban. If they win their group, it goes, R16 in PE, quarter in JHB (EP), and semi in CT. The final is at Soccer City either way, of course.

So chuffed to see the lads get one over the great Danes. Great for momentum into the opener. Great for the public. Their confidence must be on a all time high :)

I wonder if the sudden winning mentality is down to only coaching? I reckon the support of South Africans is actually more valuable than we let on. The 1996 all conquering 'Barker boys' were 90% locally based with very few having played international football before...look at what they did with a nation behind them. For the past 8 years Bafana Bafana have been a laughing stock of the big 3 sporting codes (cricket, rugby, football) in SA...now we're finally taking them seriously and selling out all their games and wearing kit without being ashamed...and when they draw or play poorly you can actually see the effort in trying to improve in their next game, unlike before where they'd just carry on in the same vain.

As much as we knock FIFA I reckon the WC will leave more of a legacy on our country than just a financial/ construction one. Even if we don't make it out the group stages I don't see any team thrashing us...and some smart negotiator must get Parreira to drop his fee so we can afford to keep him on after the WC and let him start the u20 and u23 football leagues. The man is clearly worth every cent they're paying him.

+1

Same with 1995 RWC.

I agree on keeping Parreira on after the WC, SA has improved in leaps and bounds since he has taken over.

Yip the WC will be great, but I want to see the improvement in overall football in SA. Look at what the USA did with MLS since WC94. I want to see the PSL and NFD made fully professional (a start is being made), but we need improvements in the total football pyramid. Also, we need to focus on proper youth structures, where is the u19 league that we were talking about years ago. Also, the 'rich' schools need to start offering soccer, sad as it is admit, these schools can better afford to offer the best faciliaties and coaching.

In 94 soccer was tiny in the USA, today MSL has 16 teams, and averages over 15 000 per game. SA already has a decent PSL, we can really build a great football culture post WC.

I agree, if we have really good youth structures in place, everything else will take care of itself.

I'd love to see the whole structure improve, to the point were players can move directly from the PSL to the big 5 leagues in Europe, instead of taking 'back door' ruotes through turkey and sweden like they do at the moment.
