Hi guys, some of you may know that im busy creating my own website. Im almost done with it and now i want to start getting some advertisers/sponsors involved in the project.
i didnt start the website to make money so i dont want to have those random affiliate type ads on my site.Instead i want south african companys to advertise on my site.
Which brings me to my problem...basically i want to know what the average advertiser pays a website owner for their ads.
Anybody have an idea?i just need some 'ball park figure' because at the moment i dont know wether its R100 or R10000!

You're going about this the wrong way, IMHO: first develop a great site, grow your pageviews and *then* look for advertisers.

Who's going to spend their advertising rands on a new site with no visitors???

Email Cara ( ads at myadsl.co.za ) for MyBroadband's advertising rates, and that will give you an idea of what a very popular website charges...

Okay i'll do that, hope she doesnt mind me wasting her time.
I guess i basically want to know how website advertising works, as in the terms and options available. I like to think ahead and i obviously know that nobody will advertise on a new site with no visitors but i just want to know more about it and i couldnt find any good (South african) info on this topic.

I don't think Cara will mind at all. I advertised here a month or so ago, and IIRC it was R700/week for the banner at the top of the forum.

I'm also interested in advertising on MyBB. I'd really appreciate it if you could answer a few of my questions as well:

Are you paying per impression, or what? Is there a system tracking clicks/impressions that you have access to? Are you getting a good CTR?

Thanks. :)

Mail Cara, she will help you. I can say it is worth the money and the costs are VERY reasonable....

Thanks Conradl, but I'd really like an advertiser's perspective.

I've been badly burnt by other campaigns before. WebMail comes readily to mind.

Pleasure. I did advertise - which is why I recommended it and pointed out that it was worthwhile AND good value ;)

Edit: OK, read your question again - I don't know what any of that is: CTR etc :) I was happy with my campaign though!

CTR stands for click through rate. In other words the number of impressions per click. Though not a perfect guide, it does give a rough indication of the effectiveness of an advertising campaign.

CPC (cost per click) would also be helpful.

Thanks :)

Thanks, from the stats you sent me, it seems like the CTR is about 400:1 and the CPC is about R4

Anyone get a better CTR on their campaign?
