SA will not tighten border controls

That makes no sense. By making it easier for people to get in illegally, surely that would mean more people will just come in illegally?

Nobody said anything about making it easier to get in illegally...

There are legal ways to enter this country. They said they are not going to make it more difficult but no-one said they are going to make it easier...

I think you're completely misunderstanding the chief gripe here. This has nothing to do with people getting in legally - that remains as is. The issue here is SA will not make a concerted effort to try and clamp down on illegal immigrants by tightening the borders. So, illegal immigration will continue with the same ease it has been allowed to for the past 10 years.

I see... sorry, I misunderstood...

So if we make it easier for them to enter the country legally, then we'll cut down on illegal migration!:D

I saw a whole strung out convoy of SANDF on the N1 today somewhere between Beyers and 14th. They were all chilling on the roadside. Wish we could put them to some use and make 'em go and patrol the freaking border.

I don't think actually doing some work is in their job description.

Close the frigging borders and open a hole in the Kruger fence. If they make it to Joburg then at least they have something going for them.

There is already several holes in the once water tight border:eek:. There might even be some sign posts and neon signs put up to aid with navigation :D

No, Actually it's more like gaming companies that make it too difficult for people to purchase legal copies will be encouraging piracy. And it's true.

Make it too difficult for people to get into SA legally and you'll have more people entering illegally.

Are you smoking the same stuff she is? Where do you get it?

Tighter border controls would "actually encourage illegal migration."

WTF!! So by the same logic gaming companies that use copy protection are encouraging piracy!!!

What's this moron smoking!

By the same logic:
  1. Laws encourage Crime
  2. Government encourages Anarchy
  3. Intelligence encourages Stupidity

I guess the above explain ANC thinking ....

Well, scrap the border posts completely then.
All they're doing is slowing down the free movement of legal goods.

Another governmint office that is completely and utterly redundant due to the people who run it.

Well I'm wondering why taxpayers spend millions and millions on train rides to take them back home again.

The worst thing South Africa could do was to go back to the past where we had electric fences meant to restrict people

 IMHO this is the best solution. Otherwise, why not just pull the fencing that we have there down, because there's no point in having it.

"Our emphasis is on facilitation of movement rather than tighter border control... then you know who is in the country and what they are doing."

Right...typical fcked up African way of thinking.

But there is already too much illegal immigration.

So when will they ever fix that?

Exactly, and if you have no border control there is no point in having borders and if you have no borders, you don't have a country, and if you don't have a country there is no point in having laws and without laws you have anarchy.
Is this the ultimate plan?

What is the purpose of a border if not to restrict people? Seems the ANC want a de facto Euro-Schengen-style situation in SA with open borders. Scary.

Remove the borders and put up huge signs saying 'Welcome Brother and Sistas', Mia Casa su Casa ... no more illegal immigrants (or SA for that matter)
