Do be honest I don't see the appeal of playing on a buggy "pirate" server used by only a few people ... sort of defeats the whole purpose in playing WOW.

Well it is governments fault for giving Telkom the gap. It is Telkoms fault for taking the gap. It is the South African public's fault for not raising hell when we saw this coming! We are fixing it now. Better late than never...

Stop being a cheap-skate-pirate and go buy the original game.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of South Africans playing on legal US and EU servers.

Yeah I kinda agree, part of the beauty of the game is to play with 1000's of people from all over the place. Some can offer you help, you can help others, etc etc.

Your not serious right? The local emu's that has been up for ages now get most of the time higher ping than playing internationally.

The bandwidth requirements for the server to host even 100 users is to much for some adsl connection, not to mention dedicated ZA box bandwidth costs.

update: And it seems you are indeed hosting it from a normal adsl connection, here comes the lag.
 
Jeez.
Rather play Diablo2 multilpayer than play on an Emu server. Should be the same experience.
 
Well most of us cannot afford R100 a month to play and R600 a month for the connection Blizzard are making so much money from wow it is actually ridiculas. People say they need the money for development that is bull s**t i played for 3 months on friends account to decide whether the game is worth it or not and only updates where L60 raid dungeons which probly take 3 staff members a day to make. I personally am not going to play on an international laggy server where people teleport around you and still pay for Blizzard need to catch a wake up and make an affordable local server.

Well, if the EASSY cable does it job come end 2007, we should see wonderful things in the local gaming scene... Counting down 2 years... :)

I normally spend that much on a weekend for alcohol. So I compromise and play WOW, and go out one less weekend. "COMPROMISE" - get married and you'll learn all about it.
 
Actually WoW helped me save R200 a month. I used to buy one game a month of R300, but when WoW landed on my doorstep there was no need to buy another game.

BUT, then Telkom had to end the party with their 1/11 BS.

PS if you take the 3month option, it's only R80/month

Please could a MOD or ADMIN remove this post completely! I'm in the right frame of mind to report your server to BLIZZARD!

not quite vaughan... not quite right. I am sure blizzard are making more than their fair share out of wow, but its not as if they are pocketing $60 million a month from it.

I reckon their overhead costs must be quite astronomical with all the Physical hardware requirements and bandwidth (just because ADSL is cheap overseas it doesn't mean the amount of BW blizzard requires for europe alone is also R300 p/m) and thats not even starting on redundancy: Its not like you are gonna log in one evening on a legit server and your epic kitted lvl60 is gone, its just not an option for blizzard.

Tildjian what you are offering is simply illegal. No two ways about it.

On top of that :

1. To have the most enjoyable experience possible you'll need more people on your server than there are gamers in South Africa, and seeing that you're not the only pirate running an emulator...

2. What kind of guarantee do I have that by some freak accident you are not gonna lose my lvl60 character on which I have spent 400 hours ? It happens on most of the emulators.

3. What plans do you have for updating content like e.g. the lunar festival on the legit servers and adding new items/weapons etc.

I dont really have a problem supporting a decent game developer like blizzard. People just need to learn a little patience with recent bugs and overpopulation problems.

Yeah I agree, if a product comes along that I really enjoy then I really don't mind paying for it. I have no problem in supporting Blizzard. There is also no problem in making a profit, thats why people go into business, there is nothing unethical about it. Why should Blizzard run WOW for next nothing, whats in it for them? Remember that the South African market probably didn't even figure into their initial strategy, and if you're living in Europe, 15 Euros a month really is nothing. The really have changed the MMORPG and power to them. Gaming can only get better from here on.
 
On another note : I guess your title should read : SA WoW lauNched ?

Dont you think thats a slightly misleading title ?
