SA WoW Lauched

So what do you wanna do? Go on a crusade against blizzard or pay your R100 a month to them to play WOW

No offence guys but you don't seem to have much idea about international internet costs. In Asia a 64mb\sec connection uncapped and unshaped is R150 a month (direct convert). Ok in America and Europe i understand it is alot more but if you have played wow on blizz servers you will know it lags the minute the server gets to about medium\high population which is not very impressive they pack the servers to cut costs. Their development costs are small probly +-100 programers which when talking in millions of dollars it is nothing and the hardware is a once off purchase but they already had the money for that from previous games. Blizz were going to make Diablo 3 but i heard they are not going to any more probly because they don't need to they make more per year on wow than they will make on a whole new game.

Yeah I've been experiencing that the last few nights, and especially if you go to a city which has a lot of chars wandering around. Lags Terrible

Guys most lag that we experience is due to a couple of factors:
1. Telkom
2. Machine spec.... if you don't have enough RAM you will experience a couple more problems in major cities than people who have enough ram.

It is true that the servers themselves lag sometimes, but generally when this happens blizzard works on the issues during an extended maintenance period.

EchoZA, I agree 100% with you.

I don't understand why people want to waist thier time trying to setup emulated servers, they can never keep up with the rate that Blizzard makes changes... Case in point to play on this illegal server you need to be running the client version 1.8. Blizzard is currently on 1.9.3.
Also if you do connect to this server (which I have not) I willing to take bets that not all the content is in place. And the stuff that is probably does not work as it should.

Playing on official servers is a completely different experience as to playin on an Emulated server (I have tried emulated servers before I actually got my CD key)

I haven't tried the emulated, probably coz I have put to much time and effort into my "legal" character. I can't spend like 3 days on a "illegal" server and it crashes, or they don't have back-ups, with Blizzard you also have the peace of mind that everything works and will stay working (in theory)

Vaughan : dont be so naive. You do of course realise that Blizzard needs a bit more than 64mbit/sec dont you ? We are talking about hundreds of thousands of connections to blizzard servers in datacentres around europe, which all need 64kbps at the very least... you do the math.

I'm not saying bandwidth cost is sucking up their profits, all I'd like you to understand what the term "overheads" mean on blizzard's scale.

so then they could easily rake in 60 million a month

talk about gettin ripped off

LOL, did you know that if you work hard on something ie. World of Warcraft, you have the right to reap the benefits ie. making profit and expanding the company. This is not ripping people off, its making a living and called an success story.

HAHA omw, this is the funniest bit of non-intellectual crap Ive heard in my life. Blizzard run dedicated uncontented backbones for the servers, yes, their pretty much their own little internet from back end to front end, linking france to US, back and forth. They own or rent datacentre space, imagine google server racks, just for one game. Bandwidth is not contented, they need gauranteed backbone throughput. Dedicated 10Mbit contented/shared/and unmetered US line goes for $1500 a month from Sagonet, who apparently is one of the cheaper datacentres with this offering.

Blizzard got to support a huge staff base, huge bandwidth costs, huge development costs, and yes all together they do make huge profits, but not from sitting on their ass and wishing in a well for money.

Guess what, THEY WORK FOR THEIR MONEY, is everyone going to have to use the Telkom-ripoff-mentality in SA about pricing and now taking it out on everything imaginable.

Do you live in the real world? Please give me the stargate co-ordinates for your home galaxy.

ps. off-topic, GOOGLE must be the most evil company in the world, they make Billions more than Blizzard and they dont even charge you a cent for using their search engine. EVIL!! EVIL!!
