SA20’s success shadows ongoing challenge — inclusion of black players remains elusive

It took until the third match of the 2025 Betway SA20 for the first black African player to take the field, a problem that extends across the competition's first few seasons.

Agreed Daily Maverick or atleast the sport section has become a lot more politically driven over the past few years. The "black batsmen" will always be a sticking point untill we get a world class batsmen who is covered globally as one of the best like KG is when it comes to bowling.

Its a pipe dream to believe quotas won't be a part of everything for the next few decades but if we can somehow improve grass routes cricket (SA 20 is already helping to some extent) then all players can be picked on merit and we can all have Springbok levels of success.

Proteas Men’s fast bowler Gerald Coetzee, who will miss the remainder of the Betway SA20 due to a left hamstring strain, remains in contention for selection for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan.

Coetzee will be closely monitored by the Proteas medical team, with a decision on his inclusion to be made within the first week of February.

It was one of the best run chases I have seen at Newlands.

Rickleton on is reminding me of AP Kuiper.

Ja, was a bit of a shocker Not sure how you can even think of giving it out when Naveen is coming from that wide. Any non-yorker hitting pads will either be outside off or missing leg..
