SABC bill

They should just scrap parliament, the constitution, the bill of rights, along with the scorpions and the judiciary, and anyone else who gets in their way. They could just run the country straight out of Luthuli House. It would save everyone a lot of time, effort, money and pretense.
 
Does anyone else have this feeling that our country is going to sh*t. When we won the right to host the 2010 World Cup, I, and lots of other people I know, had lots of hope. 2010 is supposed to be this awesome beacon of light and hope that would lift us out of the dark ages and into an exciting brand new South Africa. But as we get closer, things just seem to be getting worse, not better....

Any thoughts, comments?
 
It appears as if people in Government are more concerned with the squabbling for power & high positions than with the actual governing of the country. When actual problems arise, it seems as if these same people try to ignore it, as if the problem will go away by itself?
 
The only solution here is to remove all powers of the president and parliament to have any effect on the SABC and put it in the hands on an independent council made up of people in civil society, government, and broadcasting who know something about the running of a public broadcaster - in effect an open and transparent committee to select the board.
The SABC should be focused on serving South Africans not politicans. I hope Mbeki vetoes this one.

Agreed! The SABC has become the exclusive mouthpiece of the ANC.

The problem is that the SABC has been, up to now, Thabo's own exclusive organ, which has annoyed the ANC.

Now they want to take back control, so that if anybody abuses the so-called public broadcaster, it will be them and nobody else.
