BYE SABC.........................forever.

Apparntly telkom own the air

I've watched SABC a few times, there is a fair bit of socialist/communist propaganda on those channels. It is rather disturbing. We are building a nation of people that are tolerant of communism, and we all know how well communist states turn out. I mean just look at Russia...uh ...I mean just look at Cuba...oh... uh... how about China, they build stadiums and all sorts of amazing thin -what?...oh yeah but human rights aren't THAT important are they?...I mean... nevermind.

Thats not true at all... I watch a lot of SABC 2+3 and I have never seen any of that. Yes they have a few pro-govt programs but also a lot other programs that show how the people really live in this country.

I wish I had DSTV as there is not a lot of variety but I think that if SABC goes under it will be an absolute disaster ! Most people in this country can only watch SABC.... think about them.

E-TV ftw. Get rid of all of them and pay someone a normal salary to do a good job. Corrupt noobs.

As some one said before, a previously working institution squandered and destroyed by the ANC.-
Abase Nefarious Corrupt

I don't know about that. I watched a program a few months ago called "African Intellectuals" which (I imagined) was going to be about intellectuals in Africa. They basically interviewed a man from Soweto who had studied in Cuba and returned to South Africa to teach people in his community how to bypass their electricity meters and tap into the Eskom lines in an attempt to defy the capitalist South Africa. The interviewer kept referring to him as "comrade" and they applauded the man as a hero of the people. Their were also frequent references to him being a Marxist.

I'm not saying communists don't deserve airtime, but that interview was seriously skewed IMO. I mean I don't for one second agree with the way Eskom is run, but this man is not a hero of the people. Granted this is anecdotal evidence at best, but still there it is.

After seeing that I decided to stop watching SABC.

You know this whole "something went wrong - blame the ANC then hang round looking all ""I told you so""" thing is really getting old fast.

I'm not their biggest fan but you guys are way lost somewhere in the backwaters of Stuckrecordville.

...just sayin'.

I call bull****.... sounds more like a fantasy of what happened.

They run a lot of adverts about how you can get killed if you do that... why would they run a show like that ?

Where in there did I mention the ANC?

Someone is a little oversensitive. There are some communist elements in the ANC, but to equate the ANC with communism implicitly the way you have just done is a little narrow-minded.

You can believe whatever you want to believe, all I'm saying is that is what I saw, if you want to go and verify it then feel free, I have given you the name of the program.

It is easy to call bulls**t, why not go and look it up if you don't believe it, as far as I recall it was on a Saturday or a Sunday probably around 10am (I know that is pretty vague, but I doubt it would be too hard to track that program down with someone at the SABC). I'm merely sharing my experience of the SABC's prgramming, I'm not driven enough to go and complain to them, I'd rather just stop watching it.

Kill off the beast, split it into 3, and start 3 national broadcasters. They can compete amongst themselves...

Then we will have to prop up 3 failing entities each with it's own set of fat executives with our tax money? No thank you. Splitting them up will not solve the problem.

3 TV licenses?!

May the extinction that they deserve be quick and widespread!

Fact: All great monopolies, empires and species come to an end. Most of the time it's not always in the manner that we would prefer, with David standing over Goliath empty slingshot in hand or a 20km wide meteor plunging into the planet Deep Impact style. The REALLY big collapses come from initially small events that ripple through the system gathering momentum like a wave, quietly wiping out everything that can not or will not adapt to these changes. Think of it as the chaos theory meets evolutionary theory ;-)

The SABC, like many of our gov-based institutions, is breeding itself into extinction, not by taking money from the people who are comfortable and then catering for the moderately impoverished (to bastardise an Eddie Izzard phrase). It's going to die out because it simply has not adapted enough to continue existing in the modern age.

The competition is flourishing because it has HAD to adapt to keep on competing in an already unfair tournament.
The SABC, like ALL self-absorbed monopolies/empires, sees no need to even compete (apart from advertising!), let alone adapt to the ever-changing landscape of broadcasting. Thus the recessive gene in their DNA structure has run unchecked for too many generations and now they find it impossible avoid extinction.

With all the backing in the land, financially; politically; and privately they could have easily launched their own 24hr news channel, 24hr sports channel, 24hr movie channel, heck! even a 24hr soap opera channel! But they didn't. They choose poorly. Rather than grow their empire, they stagnated. They tried too hard to be politically correct, to cater for too many races, creeds and cultures and cram it into three or four TV channels and a bunch of rubbish radio stations. They forgot that no matter the colour of your skin or which if the 18000 official South African languages that you prefer to communicate in, that the universal language of the viewer is entertainment. And that is the one thing they just can't seem to get right . . .

Who of all the tree-huggers out there would ever have thought that Climate Change would do us a favour and kill off one of the parasites?

;-)

TB you biscuit!

ROFL!

Anyways ... Fire the entire board and upper management, and pay E-TV to run SABC.

Done.
Well ETV not much better than the sabc if theyd stop repeating movies and shows other than that etv better than sabc but not great

This is but one of the parastatals that is starting to collapse! 2010 coming up... top brass want more money in own pockets ... nothing goes to service delivery. SABC, ESKOM, TELKOM - who's next?
