SABC to launch new TV channels

The content is crap but at least they are trying something new. Hope this works better than the old crappy channels.

I am sure they said this 10+ years ago too.

Sesotho, Setswana, and Sepedi will form the Sotho channel.
isiZulu, isiXhosa, siSwati, and isiNdebele will form the Nguni channel.
xiTsonga and tshiVenda will form the third channel.
Afrikaans, and content including the Khoisan community, will form the base of the fourth channel.

Other languages share a channel and Afrikaans gets a standalone one. So much for the conspiracy of eliminating it :p

I thought the SABC was bankrupt. Why is it creating new channels when it can't afford to cover the existing ones?

Will the current SABC1, 2 and 3 setup continue or are those channels being scrapped? I assume they continue as normal?... so the content for those new channels is new? (just want to get an idea of how much of my tax money is being tossed down the money hole going forward)

So, nothing in English?

They wanted to do Khoisan, but then realise all those people actually speak Afrikaans.
But, I should not really comment. Cannot remember when last I watched an SABC channel.

Reporting the news on the SABC, SABC2 Morning Live news reader Lebo Thinane made a Freudian slip, telling viewers that the "several language based TV channels will serve the ANC's audience".

Sauce

Thinus also mentions that the new channel will not replace the other channels.

I killed off DSTV but left the R29 SABC option so I can catch news and weather.

It's lumped with Khoisan. Is that not a nearly extinct language? :p :p
