SABC to shut five foreign bureaux offices

The SABC will close down five of its foreign bureaux and scale down operations in other countries to cut costs, the broadcaster said on Friday.

To have their own offices in foreign countries was a stupid idea to begin with. I don't think there would be a shortage of journalists which could not be hired for specific tasks at a fraction of the cost. What could the SABC dig up which is not generally reported by the big news bureaux?

WTF are the SABC doing with "offices" in foreign countries, unless they're profit making business units.

I think the SABC wanted to put their own "positive" spin mostly on African news.... it proved to be a bit difficult, though.

Those other big news agencies and that pesky thing called the intardnet ruined their plans a bit.
