I don't know what is going on with SADV in Port Elizabeth. I've created so many support tickets and they say that it has been escalated to Vumatel but nothing seems to ever change.

I don't understand why it is all skipping CINX and hitching a ride on Seacom all the way to JHB.

Anybody have any insight?

Cloudflare Cape Town has been re-routed according to Cloudflare's status page. 8.8.8.8 is JHB only I believe. And I'm not sure about 9.9.9.9 (but I have a feeling it is JHB only too).

Cloudflare and Google USED to be +-20ms on SADV. On Frogfoot it was 12-15ms.

SADV used to go from PE -> JHB at +-20ms. Frogfoot used to go PE -> CPT at 12-15ms.

I only started using Quad9 a few months back but I'm pretty sure it was also around the 22ms on SADV.

Those tables are terrible though. I can't ever remember getting routed like that.

Note: I forgot to mention, those are all performed directly on their Calix ONT/router combo so my network isn't interfering with anything.

Here are some images I sent to SADV on 3 September after 15:00:

WhatsApp from a Vumatel technician:

"Hi. I spoke to our Networks today and they have advised that in P.E we are having capacity issues that is affecting all customers connected to the PE node. A lot of other customers are also having issues with speed. unfortunately there is nothing much that can be done until the capacity issue is fixed on the P.E network. This issue is only in P.E at the moment."

"I will keep in touch for when this issue is resolved that side and we can do further testing. apologies for the inconvenience."

What's your Google and Quad9 trace-routes looking like now? Is it back to around the +-20ms mark?

Looks good, more or less similar to FF (when we don't have capacity issues) & when routed through CPT. If you ever get those +-20ms to Google or Quad9 be sure to get a traceroute, will be interesting to see how they route it. Best pings I got on FF (when routed through JHB) to Google/Quad9 was +-27ms but was most of the time around 29ms. When routed through Cape Town my average to Google/Quad9 is also +- 29ms.

There must be a way they can optimise their network to also get 10/11ms to Cape Town like FF has, not sure where the extra +-6ms comes from on your first hop.

Hope they can fix your capacity problem soon :)

Thanks man. I'll continue to monitor it and report back if/when things change.

I see "Vodacom in discussions to buy Vumatel and DFA" so things could change again. I assume good ol PE would be last to be integrated and optimised into the red beast.

Very nice for Cloudflare... I'll test it at random times over the weekend to see if it was just a quiet morning or if they have actually made changes.

Last few days I can't do a tracert via ICMP or UDP anymore. Directly from the Calix router/ONT:
