Hi

I have a Sahara 1 gig USB Flash Drive, it was working fine all this time and i never removed it while files were being transferred and I also used to use the safely remove function.
today all of a sudden when I try to open it it gives the following problem:
"The disk in drive E is not formatted, do you want to format it now?"

I havent tried formatting it but just curious to know how did that happen and is it possible for me to recover what was on there?

thanks

I don't think recovery is possible, but stick the flash drive in, go to control panel>performance and mainentance>administrative tools>computer management>storage>disk management> right click on both the drive letter and the partition and see what options you have there, maybe you can do something to get it active again, I'm not sure, it's a long shot.

It's sold by Sahara, there's your problem  :p

Did you by any chance remove it without choosing that 'safely remove blah blah blah' option in windows?

nope never removed it without choosing that safely remove blah blah blah.
teraside, i tried what you told me but still no luck.
ah well, thats life. :)

Try it on another computer and see if it works. Otherwise the drive is fooked and you probably need to format it

dont give up yet, before you format or write anything else to it, look for an app that can restore deleted files, you might be able to restore your stuff that way.

I used an app that could undelete a few months ago, but I have no idea what it's called and I'll first have to search for it again, as its on my one harddrive that just died yesterday :(

EDIT: Here's the app I used: http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/welcome.htm ;)

HTH

tried it on another pc and it gives the same problem. :(
im quite interested to know how that managed to happen.

At least with a flash drive it doesnt die if you look at it wrong back in the day i would back my datasets up on 2 sets of stiffys. How times have changed.

People actually use that safely remove hardware thing???

I've never lost data on a flash disk and never used safely remove... unless it's a 2000 machine or Linux where if you don't unmount it there are issues.

tip: Rectron are selling flash disks with LIFETIME garuentees, so if anytime in the future your 128MB drive dies, just take it to them and they'll swap it out with the smallest disk avail :P (going to be 512MB by next year I'm sure)

Well I dont use it, but once I did lose everything on a flashdisk when I did it, not sure whether it was because of that tho, but it has only happened that once.

I suppose it's plausable because windows has something called "delayed write" which basically means it's still arranging and copying data after the dialogue box has gone away.

It's not supposed to utilize that on removable media... but then again, it's windows we're talking about :P

If possible, plug it into a Linux system... I have retrieved data many times using this method....

sahara flash problem

i have a i gig flash but yesterday when i was working power went and it crashed how can i restole it or get back the infomation contaianed in it:confused:

Your first problem is thats its Sahara :D lol
Secondly, format the Flash Disk, and leave it as is.
Next get some recovery software, loads available. Should recover all your data.
Try Ontrack or get data back. Scan for Fat32, and recover.
Simple :)
Third: Go buy something else besides Sahara lol
