Anybody else having DNS problems with SAIX for the pass few days? Seems like SAIX is caching old DNS. We are with Web Africa and can switch between SAIX and VERIZION. On Verizon is seems find, but on Saix the old DNS is coming up....

Thank you, the problem its client websites, bottomline they are not visible and they can also not receive emails

Affected us today as well. NO word yet what is going on but changing to Google's DNS solved it for the one machine I checked.

my problem is i cant get 80 clients thats not technical to use google's DNS. also from an 8ta modem, i dont know how one's going to switch to Google's DNS

Don't waste time with any custom DNS provider because you will not reap the benefits of local mirrors such as AKAMAI or GGC... if you absolutely must use a custom DNS server, use Google's - 8.8.8.8, but even there, you're excluding yourself from the benefit of a lot of locally prioritised traffic. Your best DNS server is the one auto-assigned to you by your ISP on dial-up.

Thank you fragtion,

I agree totally, but how can we get the problem under the attention of Telkom and 8ta. I believe the problem lies with them as their clients have problems.

Only if your ISP knows what they are doing, the WebAfrica DNS servers were horribly slow the last time I used them, don't know if it's improved since.

Thanks to all the members for the replies. At the end of the day using other DNS settings will enable some technically minded users to access email.

The main issue is sites not visible. It does not help when internet users can't access your site because they have the wrong ISP. Look at themugg.com. A huge business. Can you imagine how much traffic and business they must be loosing!

That's funny, because I exclusively use Web Africa DNS servers on any ISP account I connect, and I pretty much never encounter issues where the root cause is the DNS server I use.

On top of that, I don't find them slow, generally speaking they fast, non-cached entries sure sometimes take longer, but let's face it, how many times do you actually browse something that is not cached? The benchmark tools also clearly show, they in the top of the top when it comes to cached entries, and on non-cached entries they are average, but not the worst. Taking those results with the fact that they don't cause issues when using the internet...don't think you need to call them as bad as you do.
