SAIX International Dead?

Thanks mikef.

I had the same problem here. I was getting frustrated since I got a new 1 Gig SAOL account to test and nothing worked. Yet my gaming was perfect

Telkom ISP was also dead, yet Nukecap worked like a charm

Changed the proxy setting and its perfect again, What was funny, was my fiance could use firefox to browe.. yet my IE was a no go. I did find that if you typed in the IP addys of certain sites you could access them

Ta - SAIX cache is working now. Been trying diff proxies and none working.. finaly something works :D

So its in Italy!

It is just too much.

I cannot recall one month-end in the last year when international has not gone down during the last few days of a month. It is just too much of a coincidence for it not to be planned. Just like Eskom blacks out suburbs during heavy electrical usage, Telkom is throwing a switch to deny us the chance to download the gigabytes we have purchased. I think that although the ISP's are bound to use SAIX, we should start demanding back our money for unused Gigs at month-end when the service goes down.

Maybe one of the functions that we can cover on this forum is a log of when we experience international down, just an entry with date and time when experienced and we could thus build up a case for refunds of moneys.

I for one tend to save my gigs for month-end since I rely on my ADSL connection for work purposes and thus cannot afford to be capped

This makes no sense. If there is a cable break in Italy then there is no access at all...by anyone in SA. But only http is effected for Gauteng. And if you input a manual proxy address, all is restored. Methinks SAIX are talking sh!te. The problem has to do with the f#cking transparent proxy or the port prioritisation or packet shaping systems.

Melville, JHB: International dead.

They've been lots of international link failures in the last few days.

This has been the pattern for a number of months - international links fail during the last week of the month. Often the "fault" disappears while technicians are testing ...

Bloem is still down and out!

Then it is not the line problem in Italy - per Saix this was fixed at 20:01

Sure looks like SAIX represents the globe. International bandwidth a bit too high, where shall we cut it at month end. This month flip the switch at console IT-ALY1. Voila! A cable break in Italy. Obviously an international problem and not SAIX's fault.

April's plan: Flip the switch at console MON-GOLY. Surprise, surprise! We will have a comet wiping out the cable landing point in Outer Mongolia at the end of April

JHB South down as well.
Certain sites like ibm.com work, news24 takes 10 minutes to open...
Basically unusable...
Luckily this site works. :-)
