SAIX International Dead?

A quick test this morning:

I can access the following sites with the manual proxy set to dsl-cache.saix.net port 8080 but not when connected directly

http://www.cnn.com/
http://www.google.com/
http://www.tomshardware.com/
http://www.pcstats.com/

BBC can be accessed with or without the proxy server

http://www.bbc.co.uk/

Even some local sites ie http://www.news24.com/News24/Home/ load extremly slowly unless using the above proxy

I hope so, i need to get onto the HP website to get drivers for a printer but i guess my installation is going to be delayed somewhat.

i wonder if that is why telkom take so long with installations also? they need to download the drivers first, then they reach their cap, so it take a few months to get through the backlog?

dont want to sound like a isp helpdesk d**s but my international was down this morning, local worked okay, then reset modem, and voila...

try resetting your adsl router?

I followed your advice and ... VOILA! Everything is back to normal again, including the speed!!

I have another question though. How come my works ISDN works 100%, while my ADSL at home does not. If its a cable break (which we all know its not) would we not all be effected equally?

you answered your own question with "we all know it's not". like some people stated they can for example get https but not http, it goes on same line? so if line is broken. then what does https "jump"? lol

Nope, no cable break. The ADSL cache servers seem to be very underspec and when they go so does web browsing.

And wouldn't you know it, SAIX doesn't give anyone the option to bypass it.

Some mention restarting the modem, the reason this (sometimes) works it that you could be passed to another BRAS that's not using the same cache server. We're in Rivonia and restarting the ADSL can yield a BRAS in pretoria or newdoring fontein <sp?>

i use new doring mostly, and i must say i hardly ever have a problem
