SAIX International Screwd again?

evilsee, are you by any chance in CT?

Proff

yes proff that was from cape town CBD, at home on my 384k line when I do a trace route to google.com the response times are ok, +- 400ms

During the day when I did the same trace route from work there were some crazy response time like 3000ms to almost 4000ms, what I noticed was that it seemed to be occurring within south africa from this ip 196.4.33.5 for 2 or 3 hops then the response time improved to 500 to 600ms.

Also during the day at work when I did a trace route from the US back to SA, the response time was also ok about 400 to 500ms.

So me thinks there was problem within south africa and it had to do with the way SAIX was routing International traffic out of the country. I may be wrong however.

evilsee, has your connection been restored yet? - damn frustrating. After mine was reset earlier I manage to maintain full speed for +/- 30 min afterwhich I have to DC and recon.

Proff

MIne is working again :D yay 350kb per second in limewire, wait full 4Mbps speed now :D - yay! haha

benitok, you mean 3.14Mb - that would be about right...but I doubt it's 314Mb :D

Proff

Umm i would be super stoked if i was getting 3.14Mbps cos that would techincally be 3215kbps and that would rock! Im fairly sure it was 314kbps

I still get full 4mbit local speeds however international refuses to climb above 17 - 20 kb/s. I stay in the Southern Suburbs, Cape Town and am on the Wynberg 2 exchange.

well we always have a connection , its just that international is very very slow, local is fast.

things are still going slow here for me too since yesterday , i reached my international cap a while ago and everything was fine even after that so it cant be that, just seems some local sites work and others just time out.

LOL
this is really funny, it just so happens that this time, SAIX is trying to do something to benefit the P2P users, and make their experience as good as any other protocols.

Saix has realized the issue exists, while I was on the phone with one of their engineers today, it is effecting high use clients.
At least now, this thread can help show the magnitude of that problem, as I am forwarding the engineer this link.

I won't divulge too much about the details, but what I can say is he has told me it should be back to normal by the weekend.

Hmmmm... Well, after my International has been COMPLETELY fscked (not able to go over 1mbit on a 4mbit line at all) for close to a month, and for the last week, not being able to get more than 20kbit/s (odd) International, and it seems now lately, unable to even browse local sites (i.e. myadsl.co.za - and no, I'm not capped), now they say it should be fine by the WEEKEND?!?!?!:mad::mad:

Where's the SAIX Network notice? Is this affecting their corporates on Leased Lines as well for example?

Making P2P like 'all other protocols,' means shaping the CRAP out of it, which it seems they are now doing as I suspect it is 'affecting other customers.' It seems to me like SAIX is now limiting the amount of TCP connections you can establish on your line, because whilst I have my P2P downloading at a whopping 20kbit/s, my ADSL line is completely dead, I can't even open a International web site. Stop my P2P, and I thankfully get 20kb/s International for browsing, but let's not talk about the 30GB odd of data I need to move via RSync, or the International FTP servers I need to transfer data from...

I'm sorry, and I know this is plain and simply a Teklom thing (as always), but I really need to rant and rave here... Do we get any compensation? Do we get informed, AT ALL? Telkom's own help desk won't even acknowledge that there IS a problem?!?!?!

I feel like logging a call, getting a Techie out to my house, and refusing to let him leave untill he SHOWS ME he get's at least 2mbit/s from a International FTP site... I'll even give the man, coffee, food, and a bed to sleep in... This, is farkin absurd!

Slow in CPT

Hello

It seems to be close to month end - very slow international - always have to reload - but this is not new, so far experiencing this every month.

So much money for this

This is really getting lame now.. No connectivity at ALLLL on international.

IS Uncapped 4Mb Line has been slow too, ATM p2p is Roughly 30Kb/s only...

Compared to the usual 100-200 its hopeless...

SAIX seems fine with both local and international from my side.

Although I can only sync at 2048 today.:(
