They're essentially saying you WON'T get an increase if you stay. You get an increase by leaving [to a competitor] , aka "job hopping" .

Have you checked what the cost of living is like lately in SA, all thx to those same Brits OVER INFLATING property prices! To own a modest 3 bedroom home one needs to pay over 11k a month.
What is the average operators salary???

So true. House prices & general cost of living have increased significantly. I really dont know how people survive...I simply assume that they earn multiples times what I do...

With housing,petrol and food prices this high. I cannot see how anyone can afford this.
I mean, most flats for hire are around R2500pm, even the crammy one's go for R2000 per month. Most people work within 20-25km from their home/apartment (so thats 20-22 working days, average 1100km distance to work and back. Depending on your car, u might get between 8-14km per litre of petrol. If u get 10km per litre u'll need 110 litre's wich is around R600+- for petrol each month)
For a Single persons Food , i doubt u'll be able to spend less than R1000, thats excluding takeouts and stuff like clubs,pubs and movies.etc.etc.
So budgeting in SA is a mission and a half...

Can this not be directly contributed to the brain drain? If there we more than enough operators, the salary inflation would be much less. Perhaps if government did more to keep skills in SA, this would not be happening?
This is a typical free market phenomenon. No way to stop it. No employee is going to say no to a decent increase.

the cost of living has increased dramatically over the past few years ... and that is definitely due to the house price increases as well as the fuel price increases .... but unfortunately most of the employers do not see this and as such do not provide a sufficient salary for people to live on .... so people are always looking for better opportunities to lead a sustainable life ..... don't thin thats gonna change anytime soon .... so ... booohooo for the employers that are basically exploiting their staff right now by not paying them a decent liveable wage

the problem with fuel prices is that they go up and then food and everything else goes up. and when the fuel price does come down the food prices don't drop. I need my salary linked to the fuel price!!
my dads work is 80km from home, goes everyday, the reason being he wants to send me to a good school

that you as employee have become more valuable in terms of EXPERIENCE and
KNOWLEDGE [to everyone].
So if companies do not realise this "increased" value and increase your salary appropriately then it's their mistake [not the competitor who obviously knows your "new" value] . I've found companies are very "lazy" in this area, they don't review their employees and determine their real value to the company.
Simple logic: If you are trained and get a diploma , why can a competitor now offer you a higher salary [and previously they wouldn't] but the company you work for DO NOT ? It's quite obvious who's taking chances. You as employee don't get trained for charity, the company benefits from your increased skills, but surely YOU must also benefit?
