Hi,

I'm earning R11 500.00 after deductions and medical aid. What can I do with this salary? I do not have a house, I do not have a car, I stay with my parents, at age 23 that sucks.

I have been searching through www.autotrader.co.za for cars, and a Jeep is the one catching my attention, I can go Bundu bashing, or simply chill urban/highway road, I like big cars, what I can afford is a car that costs less than R125 000.00, that limits me to Jeep Cherokee[2003-2004] and Grad Cherokee[2002-2003], are these good cars? Are these cars most sought after by SA hijackers? Any idea on how much would insurance set me back.

Kind Regards,

well i've heard about many ppl complaining about the jeeps because they are sooooo damn heavy on fuel and the gearbox seems to be breaking, a lot. Why dont you get yourself a nice V6 bakkie with all the bells and whistles that is 4 years old ? like a mitsubishi rodeo. The old pajeros are nice too... That jeep is a nice car, i think you would really like the 4.7 liter V8, a friend of mine as one, the sound is unbelieveble and it can go over 200... but 17 liters on a 100 km... yah... why not getting a Corolla or something, and save up for a nice 4X4 for later ? insurance will be much less on the corolla than on the jeep, thats for sure.

Kind Regards,

Just remember... just because you can afford to buy the car, doesn't necessarily mean you can afford to run the car... petrol Jeeps are HEAVY.

Jeeps do not like SA conditions I have a friend who is a gearbox specialist and the amount of Chrysler,Dodge,Jeep that go through there for full gearbox overhauls is scary. They also overheat quickly and the engines seem sensitive. My advice is if you want one buy one new and sell before the warenty runs out.

And prone to some drive shaft issues.

On 11k steer clear of a 4x4. Ask yourself honestly how many times you will need a 4x4.

look for a small diesel. You do not want to have 50% your salary consumed by a 4x4.:(

Just buy some normal Ford bantam or Fiesta or some Opel or something in the R100 000 or less range

Rather invest your money and buy a bit of a cheaper car....

Or buy a new car thats in that price range

Just my 2c :)

WTH is a data engineer. That could be a thousand things.

I supervise the collection and monitoring of information from drilling operations, such as drilling data, gas and samples, using a range of equipment and laboratory techniques including binocular microscopes, ultraviolet fluorescence and thin section analysis.

I then log in the details of drilling operations in oil companies' computer systems. A Data Engineer is also called Mudlogging Geologist...:)
