I've just purchased a usb modem and plan to use pre paid data bundles.
I am currently using prepaid for my phone and I understand that I can buy data bundles using my current pre paid sim card, but does that mean that I am going to continually have to swap the sim from my phone to the modem and back again every time I want to make a phone call ?
Should I rather just get a new pre paid sim and use that for the modem permanently and keep my current sim/phone number for my phone ?

Thanks.

It'll probably be easier to just get another prepaid sim and load the data bundles on there. I'm on contract, so i just got a data sim for the modem, but that's not possible on prepaid as far as i know.

Welcome to the MyADSL Forums! :D

Get the extra SIM. You would still need to get the sim out every time you want to load airtime though (Thats if you are cheap like me) - all thx to VC (They restricted airtime transfer). :(

You can always load airtime via an ATM or internet banking.

I picked up my new slipstream modem yesterday and bought a new sim as suggested, bought airtime for the sim, used that to get a 500mb data bundle, went home, connected the modem, installed the software and boom, after about 5 years of dial-up I now have broadband. Feels good.

I dont know if its just me, but I dont notice a massive difference when surfing, I mean its quicker for sure but it just doesnt seem like there is that much difference between dial-up and broadband when It comes to plain surfing the net, the pages dont load that much quicker.
Its when I downloaded something that I really noticed a huge difference, something that would take an hour on dial-up took a few minutes to do.

Anyway, its nice not to hear that 'ding-ding, shhhhhhh, ding-ding, grrrrrr,dong-dong, pong, pweeeeee' when I click on connect anymore.

I still love that dialup sound! :)

Loading of the sites must be faster. The downloading of files should be tenfold if compared to dialup. I think you are used to 1.8Mbps already! :p

I'm guessing you still use Intranet Exploder [web browser], I suggest that you try Firefox with the Fasterfox add-on, or Opera...

Yup, separate SIM is the way to go.

 I need to get that sound as my ring tone ...

I love my ancient nokia 6630.
I consider it my bastard phone and use it as a modem for 3g.
At least i can check my balance and saves me from buying that dongle.
