My monitor has started doing something strange, I always switch it off on the monitor when I am not using it, using the blue button on the bottom right.
When I switch it on, the monitor flashes at a high speed and gradually slows down.
It comes right after a few seconds, maybe 15 or so.
Any ideas?

Hope for your part its still under warrenty its the circuit board that regulates the power to the cathode tubes, mine did the same, took it back to pczone and samsung replaced the board, working fine now.

cathode tubes?

Dude... its an LCD, they don't have "cathode tubes"

But marine1 : is it still under warranty?.. I'd take it back and get it replaced if it is.

Eh?
CCFL = Cold cathode fluorescent lamp
That's what LCDs use for backlighting, unless you have LED backlit LCD.

I would never buy computer hardware ONLINE.

Simple reason, replacing, issues, its a mission!

I buy computer games and DVDS online, but never hardware - hardware, I find someone close :)

Samsung screens carry a 3 year warranty and there is probably a repair/warranty-handling agent company close to you. You don't even need an invoice, they scan the bar code.

Phone Rectron and ask them who does Samsung returns in Jhb, unless someone here knows.

as long as you buy from a reputable online supplier, i am yet to have any issues with items that are still under warranty.

Same monitor. Same issue. It lasted for about a month, until eventually the blue light just kept flashing and the monitor wouldn't go on. A took it to Samtech,Samsung repair agents in Cape Town. It's a known issue with this monitor. It took about a week to repair under warranty. The repair slip said faulty power supply, or something similar, but that may not be an entirely accurate descripion. Repair techies said it's a fairly popular issue with this monitor. Once working, it's absolutely glorious tho - worth taking it in for the fix.

Sounds like typical backlight inverter issues. Probably dry joint or something arb on the production line. Could just be manufacturer cutting costs and opting for a cheaper component supplier for a batch of them.
