Deal of the day:
Samsung 46" Full HD Edge LED TV Model: UA46C5000 NOW ONLY R11999.00 WAS R15999.00

Any1 know this TV? I`m considering getting it, any comments / suggestions? Would be mostly for movies and sports, hooking it up to HD PVR and computer and ps3.

That's entry level stuff. Same picture quality as entry level LCD. And entry level LCD and sport is a no-no.

Get a 50" plasma.

Either PS50C430/450 at R8,000 - R9,000. HD Ready. Best value TV on the market. C450 has better anti-reflection coating, extra HDMI, USB media player, FM transmitter.

Or PS50C550 at R10,000 - R11,000. Full HD (but you probably don't need full HD).

Trust. :)

I definitely want HD, there`s no going back to SD :) I`m not a big fan of plasma`s though.

Thx for the comments and advice :)

hmm i dont really know. lcd is easier to spell? do they still compare to LCD/LED`s on picture quality and contrast ratio? I have a 46" Samsung LCD, full HD awesome one, so i guess i`m leaning in that direction again. But they dont really make LCD`s above 46". I have to give my current one back to my dad when they return to SA.

Of course they are. Plasma technology is superior to LCD technology. LCD is the one doing the catching up. Plasma kills LCD at both the entry level of the market, as well as the upper end of the market.

Sport = plasma. No question. :)

hmm ok i`l have re-evaluate my not liking it, will do a bit more research, they are quite a bit cheaper than LED and there is bigger ones......will have a look thx :D

At the end of the day, it's up to you to decide which gives you better picture & motion. It won't hurt to compare the two technologies.

I want 1080p, no compromise :) The clarity is just awesome, definitely worth it imho.

What full HD/1080p media do you have?

Quite a lot :) Sport etc is fine in 720p, dont need anything more. Got a lot of 1080p movies though and bluray player.

Yeah i`l do that. I wasnt gona look at plasma really, but will do, the ones i saw might have just been cheapish ones which gave me the impression that they were inferior. Will do a bit of digging and comparing

Alright. If you don't believe the chart I posted, and you can perceive a difference between HD and FHD from viewing distance, then the PS50C550 suits you just fine. :)

They are based on fact.

Maybe we need to get the other ±30 forumites who've bought plasma over the past 3 months for sport among other things to chip in?

Sport is important, but i`d rather see Megan Fox more clearly than Bakkies Botha, so will probly decide on the one thats best for movies.

Plasma is and always has been the technology designed for home theatre, and sport as well. The only instance they are not good is for connecting to a PC that get's worked on, i.e. excessive static images in Start bars, windows, etc.

Plasma has deeper blacks, and more accurate & natural colours. There is a reason why the best TV in the world is a plasma. Plasmas also handle motion much better than LCDs, which is why it is the chosen technology for sport.

lol, i could see the diff between full hd and hd ready. would rather go for the best than regret it later, price isnt that big a diff. i study computer engineering, i like to see whats possible :) i agree 99% of the time it doesn't matter, but that other 1% its useful ;)
