:crying::crying:

So I received a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ as a gift from a friend. He got it as an upgrade on a Vodacom contract and didn't want the phone, so I am using it with my Telkom sim.

An accident at work (through no fault of my own :mad:) have now caused a blotch of messed up pixels on the screen. The phone is about 4 months old.

I don't know if it was ever registered with ADH and seeing that I am using the phone now on a different network, is there anyway to get this fixed through Vodacom/ADH?

Needles to say, the luck of getting an expensive phone as a gift is ruined, not to mention that I have never in my life ever damaged a phone I had in any way. They always gets handed down or sold in perfect condition after two years, now this after receiving this for nothing.

Ask your friend to take it into Vodacom, with his sim in it. That's probably your best bet.

Yeah, well I will probably have to find out if he registered for ADH, cause I know that also causes some issues. I just haven't got the guts yet to tell him about this. Not that he would mind, I just really feel like p00p now, in addition to being pretty pissed.

Download ADH and register. It will indicate if the phone is already registered. Its probably better going this route than though Vodacom.

Well I have two concerns:

1 .On a previous occasion (admittedly a good couple of years ago), Vodacom refused to offer any warranty services because their sim wasn't in the phone the whole time.

2. I am not sure how true is that whole "You have to register for ADH 30 days from purchase or else it's void" situation.

What are you on about? ADH is from Samsung, and has nothing to do with what network you are on.

Well I have never used ADH hence me asking.

The proof of purchase is the Vodacom contract upgrade. In my past experience with warranties, providers will often use absolutely every bit of info at their disposal to prevent you from claiming.

Similarly, I also don't understand why you have to register for ADH within x amount of days - what effect does that have on the physical well being of the phone...? Nonetheless, this is also a requirement to that same tune.

Much ado about nothing, process is very simple.

1.Download app and register device.
2.Call Samsung ADH and have them collect the device they will give you a loan phone to use in the interim.
3.Wait for them to deliver your phone fixed like new.
4.Profit...

Don't worry about Vodacom you don't have to deal with them for ADH.:)

Oh thanks, That sounds cool and no "oh but you didn't download and register in time" type of stories? (Why I ask this is because when I got an older S5 the Telkom sales guy explicitly forced me to download the app in store and told me that if you don't do it withing 3 days of purchase, it is invalidated. Since I have read 30 days somewhere?)

Nope no stories like that,I registered my wifes s5 in the last month of the 24 months ADH those phones came with and they sorted it out just before the ADH expired.Their service was fantastic they even replaced the silver bezel around the screen for me and the waterproof flap that was missing at the bottom. That's one thing Samsung really has going for them in this country, great after sales service.

So as long as you are in the 12 month window for the s6 edge plus ADH you should be fine, sometimes they ask for invoice sometimes they don't,in my case they didn't but for a friend they did.

has nothing to do with what network you are on.

Read the very, very, very small print in the contract.

9.1.2. Vodacom will remain the owner of the Apparatus for the duration of the Initial Period.

The device remains the property of the network until such time as it is paid off. Normally at the end of the contract. This is how they get around the CPA, especially the 6 month 3 R's part. This is regardless of what warrantee the device manufacturer offers. Just because the manufacturer offers a 24month warranty does not mean the network operator offers this to you through the network. They will normally say that, because you didn't take out THEIR insurance, it's going to cost you, even in the first six months.

If Samsung offer additional protection the go for it. In theory the operator could throw a hissy fit as you are doing repairs on THEIR device without their knowledge. Unlikely though.

Hence I am a strong advocator of purchasing your device outright. You loose all your protection under the CPA and some networks (Vodacon) will charge a lot extra to split the cost over 24 months. I found one example where a R5000 phone would be charged at R300 a month which is R7200.

I'm also trying to get a S5 fixed under Samsungs much advertised ADH. What a pain the ass, I will never own another Samsung product after this episode .

After jumping trough a million hoops I managed to get it booked into the Samsung we don't care centre .

The promised 3' working days to repair is now 2 weeks already and still waiting

Can someone tell me why an IPhone 5 screen is R500 and a Samsung S5 R2500 at the Pakastani repair shops.

Tips:
You need the original invoice showing the EMI number. Without this you are wasting your time and you might as well trough the phone away.

Only certain IFix store like Clearwater will book in Samsung Phones for ADH , the Northgate franchise of IFix does not.

The high end Galaxies come with ADH premium. Register on the app and call to book. Don't take it to the care centre if you don't have original proof of purchase.

I bought a S5 on bidorbuy and was able to claim my ADH 2 times without any issues. They collect it. First time they used courier it and second time they used ram to collect and deliver my loan phone.

The second claim was on my second white S5. The screen was smashed the chrome bezel was like torn and the camera glass was cracked and they repaired all under 1 adh claim for me so still have 1 claim left.

More people are suckered into getting Samsung, so there is a big market for fixing them. Hence they can jack up the prices. Guess Samsung are the new Apple. When iPods first came out the price of white ear buds went through the roof, just because Apple used them.
