I have a Samsung S9 that I got on contract way back in March 2018. When MTN stopped providing regular, monthly updates (XFA), I switched to XFE, and doing it myself.

Due to the terrible MTN signal at home, I have switched over to Vodacom (only slightly better!).

Now my question is, is there a good reason to switch to the XFV firmware?

I know that when upgrading to a newer XFE firmware, I could keep my data, but I'm guessing that switching to a completely new firmware, it would be better to do a clean install?

Very frustrating that MTN are always several months behind. So did you loose OTA updates when going to XFE?

You should look into installing lineageOS

Very good OS.

Yes and no. I didn't receive XVE updates OTA, had to manually install them using Odin, but even when on XFE, I still received the XFA OTA's, if they were newer than my XFE firmware.

I had LineageOS on my Oneplus One. It's OK, but I'm not willing to lose Samsung Pay, Samsung Health, and a couple of other features.

When installing with ODIN you didn't get any issues? You used HOME_CSC to keep your data?

this, also,

many newer firmware. that Samsung never officially released for this phone.
and many other better apps that work the same as propeitery apps like samsung pay ect...
FNB has tap to pay, but I haven't found another app that makes use of MST. I don't use it a lot, but it has helped me a couple of times when the cc terminals can't accept tap to pay.
