Samsung Galaxy Note 2

Sorry for sounding stupid, but I never use that feature when I'm on a Samsung Rom. If I recall correctly Blocking mode is the same as blacklisting numbers? If so AOSP roms have the same feature but I prefer to use Call Blocker.

I think the blocking mode was used to stop calls / notifications during a period of time.

I personally have never used it.

Blocking Mode still allows predefined numbers to get through. When I tried apps like Call Control I found it would still ring a single time, where Blocking Mode doesn't ring at all.

Just tried Call Control again, really inconsistent results, sometimes partially rings, gives engaged tone instead of going to voice mail - anyone had more consistent results?

Paranoid Android just has a feature to mute notifications between set periods, but calls still come through.

I've used Call Control for a couple of years now. All unwanted call are blocked without any partial rings, and calls are always directed to my voicemail. Have you activated the Remove Partial Ring setting within Call Control to see if that fixes your problem?

I've never used anything else to block calls and sms's, I've found Call Control to be a very capable app.

So strange to hear. I've tried with Remove Partial Ring on and off. And it never goes to voice mail. Note2 on Vodacom, what are you on?

I'm on MTN, Note 2 and currently running AOSP but Call Control works flawlessly for me on stock Samsung Rom as well.

These are my settings:

Thanks so much. Partially solved the problem - my divert to voicemail wasn't set for 'when busy' - still get a single ring before it goes to voice mail which isn't ideal

Anyone using Skype on a custom rom? I am having endless issues with it and I was wondering if it might be ROM related.

(trying to phone to a pc in aus)

Haven't used it recently from my phone, but if memory recalls, I had no problems...

I'm not a developer of any sort, but I'd imagine if other data services are working well, then it might not be your ROM or Skype's fault.

Have you tried a hangout with anyone else? My hangouts videocall work well for the first 5 minutes, thereafter it gets buggy. This was also so on a Touchwiz based ROM, so I think it is Hangouts that just needs to improve still.

Thanks for the feedback. I have restored my TW ROM and I will check later to see if skype now works.

Man these stock roms are slow as ***** :)

Considering this phablet, but a bit concerned about the size. How do you get around daily with this? A bit too big to fit into a (formal) pants pocket, and what about Levi's?

Anyone using a hip pouch? Or is this too bulky?

Really love the stylus input option with its pressure sensitive tip, but the size is a worry.

Can the S4 do everything the Note2 does(obviously no stylus though)?
Is the S4 a better option?

Sounds like the S4 would be a better option for you. It is still quite big (5 inches). IMO, one ends up not using the stylus all that much, unless you are in a specific profession or have a specific use in mind. So it need not necessarily be a deciding factor. The S4 has better specs other than size: faster/better processer, very sharp (very high pixel density) screen. So things should run slightly faster, although the Note 2 is still blazingly fast for me. I can hardly imagine it any faster.

Personally, the Note 2 is perfect for me. If I had a choice between the S4 and Note 2 today, I'd still pick the Note 2. It fits into my pockets perfectly (doesn't stick out). The larger screen means I can read more comfortably (fit more onto the screen); less scrolling around. I do ALOT with my phone and it is like an extension of my body, so the screen real estate is a big factor for me.

The Note 2 and S4 can do exactly the same things (bar stylus related functions). Both are Android phones. The S4 has a newer version of Samsung's skin of Android, called Touchwiz, and a few gimmicks ( "features" ) that the Note 2 doesn't have (like Airview), but IMO, fairly useless (perhaps irritating even, and you'll switch it off) and not something to base a decision on at all.

Oh, the S4 has an IR blaster, so if you have a smart TV, you can use it as a remote.
