Samsung Galaxy Note 2

My phone just took a fall while getting out of the car.
Glass is cracked but it still works.
Can anyone recommend a repair centre in Cape Town along with costs?
It sucks, I cancelled my insurance from the beginning of this month!

Hi guys and girls. Can someone help. I'm a noob flasher, so bear with me. When I flash a rom a new folder named 0 is created in my root folder every time I flash. It also happens when I restore a nandroid. I asked Mike and he says he thinks it is a bad recovery. So I flashed stock rom with Odin and tried it again but it still happens. Any advice will be appreciated.

That happens sometimes. I believe it has to do with the multi user feature of 4.3 roms. Just copy all of your files in the 0 folder back into the parent folder using ES file explorer or something like that. I have done it many times before...

Okey, thank you very much then. Just thought I was doing something wrong.

Yes you must be. Rooting is the oy you could have a custom recovery (ie CWM), from where you can install your ROM. Do a LOT of reading on rooting and flashing on the XDA developers forum, especially for this device. It is easy to root and flash, but I only suggest you do a lot of reading to grow in confidence. Also, watch Youtube videos. You'll find xda threads just for your device (model no N7105 I think?).

Nowadays, it is very hard to hard brick (completely stuff up) your phone, so don't stress too much either.

Perhaps on the slimbean ROM there will be a step by step tutorial on how to root and install that ROM on its XDA thread for your device...

Thx for the reply. What kernal / ROM is the most stable?

I just stick with the kernel that comes with the ROM. That ROM developer chose that kernel for a reason. If it is a Touchwiz-based ROM, I just use the stock kernel for the phone model.

ROM wise, Dr Ketans V3 ROM is a very stable Touchwiz based ROM. I am using that.

For the stock Android 'AOSP' experience, your most stable bet is the latest CyanogenMod stable release or RC release. Though there are many other stable options. If you don't want to mess around too much, I recommend you look at these two options. Read their respective xda threads for your phone model thoroughly :-)

Cool. Thx for the info m8!!!

Will do.

Just found what appears to be the official 4.3 download available from sammobile.com - just search for the n7100 and the first result is 4.3 from India...

I hope the Note 2 4.3 ROM is more stable than the Galaxy S3 4.3 ROM, as Samsung had to pull the Galaxy S3 update due to severe battery drain and other reported issues.

I think I'm gonna give it a shot later tonight. BTW, if I'm on rooted Paranoid Android 4.3, can I just download and flash the official firmware from recovery, or do I need to prep my device somehow first? Clear caches etc?

I would clear caches, etc. just to be safe.

I have been using this rom, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2504016 and love it. It has almost 90% of the note3 features added to it. There is instructions on the 1st post on how to install the rom.

Thx for your reply. I looked at the rom at xda and it seems nice.

Sorry, but I am a real noob in loading roms etc.

A question that I have, If I want to flash a rom. What steps needs toe be taken before flashing. Must I flash a kernel first and which.

Sorry for the questions but I am really scared of flashing anything because I don't know exactly what to do.

First of, make a back up of you phone, all data(apps, pics and so on). You need to flash a custom recovery and root your phone before you start. I would wait a day or two as a new version is being uploaded with the official rom.
