Samsung Galaxy Note 2

I'm looking for a Note 2 and is due for an upgrade at MTN and I was wondering whether the price will drop in January or not because 429 P/M is too expensive, and what about the Nokia 920 it has some awesome features like city lens and LTE and is much cheaper.
 
My Note has this blue tab on the side of the screen with apps in it that I can slide out for quick access to the apps. I want to get rid of this as it is on the way and not very useful. I've moved it to all sides and positions to find a place where it is least in the way but when I read books it's always in the way no matter where I place it. What is this called and how do I switch it off? It seems to be part of TouchWizz and not JB.

On my S3, a long hold of the back key hides the blue tab...try it?

I've been searching all the classifieds, gumtree etc for a Note 2 and they are all either way out of line in terms of price or sold....seems to be quite a popular phone but not many people selling!

You can permanently disable this in settings, under 'display', I think. And yes, long-pressing the back button hides it, and long pressing the back button again, displays it.

Maybe you know this, but that blue tab on the side is there so that you can activate multi-window. You drag any app from there onto any part of the main screen, but you can choose upper half or lower half of screen.
 
Thanks guys. No I didn't know about the back button ... LOL! That's why I couldn't understand why it's there at times and then not there at other times ... I couldn't figure out what activated/deactivated it. Stupid me. How do I get apps in the "blue box" that isn't available under edit? Does it only allow those specific apps in there to do the double screen 'trick'?

There are mods at XDA to enable any app dude. On stock with no mod it is just those specific apps.
 
I order my Note2 last week Tuesday, have been on their case since Friday, but apparently there is no stock and I will have to wait till next week :-( the lady showed my their nationwide stock screen. They have over a thousand S3's but not one single Note 2 :mad:

Im due for an upgrade within the next 2 weeks and Im going for the note 2, I just hope they will have stock around that time. What do you people think I should go for the 3G or LTE version? I heard there was problems with the LTE version is this true??

Some people here think the 3G version will have better support from the development community, and I do too.

Like BeVonk said, at the price we pay for data in SA, LTE is inconsequential. The 3G version still gives HSDPA speeds, which are very very fast. LTE is only useful if you download big files / steam videos etc, and even then HSDPA should be more than enough. But downloading huge files (the only time you will benefit from the added speed) is gonna cost you big time. The latency, which matters most in normal web viewing, should be the same in either case, so you won't discern a difference.

I reckon just go with the '3G' version.
 
Im a proud owner of a note 2.

I used the wrong name when setting up my device, how do i change that without resetting the device?

Nicely put. I was going to hold out for the LTE version but I believe you just changed my mind.
 
Well I have installed the Polish version of 4.1.2 and haven't been able to find anything different except for the Swipe-like keyboard. The stock Polish ROM also has some extra bloatware.

Not worth the upgrade IMO for those who use stock ROMs at the momeent

Thanks for the input and I believe that the 3G version are also more stable... well thats what I heard from a friend of mine
 
I believe that there has to be some ADDITIONAL coding done for the LTE version from the standard 3G version which is the base
