Samsung Galaxy Note 2

I bought a really decent faux leather flip cover from Cell C Centurion (unfortunately I can't recall what the name is) for R240. The cover also doubles as a wallet which I find really useful. Stay away from the Body Glove flip covers - a friend of mine bought one - the lock magnet creates dead spots on the screen and there's no cut-away for the s-pen.

Anyway, congrats on your new phone - enjoy!

Do you have a link for the one you got?
I have been hunting for a local one that doubles as a wallet.

Sadly I don't but I'll try and hunt down the packaging this evening. There's zero branding on the case itself.

Thanks dude. Would appreciate it.

Or... (Read in a hypnotic way)... Look into my eyes... "You don't need that case. It is ugly and unusable. Rather sell it to Mike Smit from MyBB" :D

The MTN and Vodacom shop in the international terminal at ORTambo had plenty of Note 2 covers last week when I picked someone up. If you're desperate you could try there :P

I live a stones throw from OR Tambo, so will go there if they have. Did you see if they were the ones that doubled as a wallet?

With the Note 1, I had a cover, but it felt as though it took away from the beauty and ease of access and use of the phone.

The minimal risk of getting a scratch doesn't outweigh my need for fast and easy access to productivity. I even disabled my lock screen. (What a waste of time, to unlock the screen every single time you pick up the phone to do something, which, for me, is a great many times in the day, if you count every time the screen goes off and thus needing another unlock otherwise. Multiply that over the rest of your life).

Also, when I type, and the flip cover is therefore folded back on the back of the phone, it reduces the stability of the phone in your hand. I use both thumbs to type and operate fast, and nothing should impede that for me, unless it is of great importance.

A cool thing about a nice flip cover, is that it looks real snazzy and exec.

But the phone on its own also oozes a lot of jealousy inspiring sex appeal. My dark grey phone looks very exec already IMO.

My phone (especially now with the bloody awesome Note 2 :D ) is like an extensions of my body now, I need unfettered use to it! I don't put a flip cover on my hands, and neither on my phone. (OK so I basically put 'covers' [shoes] on my feet, but hands are used for tasks of dexterity, just like a super smartphone, so I feel my reasoning still stands :p )

Nobody asked for it, but that's just my 2c's about the cover. I just had this weird need to express my thoughts.

I think if you can't find one, don't stress too much about it.

This, ladies and gentleman, is what true love looks like. :)

Okay, I just discovered why a case is a necessity! A colleague put down a styrophome cup, filled with tea, on the same desk as my phone about 10 minute ago. The cup had a leak I did not notice and the entire contents of the cup leaked out while we were busy discussing something and dammed up on the desk. The phone would have been drenched in tea, had it not been for that case! :)

I didn't look for those - I was looking at some of the official Flip Covers and a few Capdase ones. I don't recall seeing wallet-style ones..

OK well, I guess that was a good reason to have a case!

I guess I am also referring to the flip cover 'cases' (those don't actually 'case' the phone, the flap attached to the backcover. They are nice looking n'all, and I don't disrespect who decides to go with one) :)

I actually agree with your previous post on how nice the phone looks and would prefer not having to store my phone in a cover or case. Sadly, most cell phones just aren't tough enough to survive these sort of incidents.

Been using note 2 for 2 months now. All the normal phones seem like they are too small for me now.

Thats so funny because I was saying the same thing to my daughter. Only difference was that I only have mine for about 2 weeks. I dont see myself going back after this phone. I think that S4 will probably be similar to the S3, they will probably up the CPU and the RAM. Im already wondering what the Note 3 will have to offer

I got my pouch, back cover and screen protector and a flip cover all from ebay...in stages.
The pouch caused the phone to drop on the floor when I was taking it out so I threw the pouch in the draw when the back cover arrived. I used it for a month before the flip cover arrived and I loved it. The flip cover was used for 5 minutes before I threw that also in the draw.
I hated it. No quick access to the phone. You still need 2 hands to answer a call and it is cumbersome when texting or using the S pen. The thing I hated the most was there's no easy access to the rocker buttons on the left so when you get a call and need to put it on silent you have to flip, and squeeze your finger between the case hinge to get to that button.
So I'm back to back cover...with screen protector. That option works a treat for me.

LOL :-) also wondering

But the Note 2's specs will last quite a while IMO. It is like when the S2 came out, it was groundbreaking (it had the largest screen for its time, or, it shared the tag for largest screen size with the HTC Sense), and the rest of the specs were such that the phone is still great to use even now.

The Note 2 is like that to me. Sure, new phones are coming out with CPU's that score very high (Snapdragon S4 series), but the Note 2's specs are more than awesome enough to stand the test of time (2 or 3 years IMO). The 2 GB RAM also makes the phone future proof.

I mean, my previous laptop had performance specs less than this phone!

I have been hunting for a local one that doubles as a wallet.

Found the packaging last night but it's very generic - it simply says "Flip Cover" on the front. Searching for "Note 2 wallet case" returns youtube videos showing pretty much the exact same case that I bought but unfortunately no link to SA sites where you can buy the case. I reckon your best bet would be to hit the Cell C stores close to you and search their stock or enquire about the case.

Anyone know if it's possible to add more apps to the 'split-window menu' (the one that appears when holding down the back button)?
