Samsung Galaxy Note 2

@rudig

Another option would be:
Go for the FNB deal as Martin said. R285.
Get a Cell C 2GB contract. Through Mweb it's R89pm, through Cell C R99.
Pay 99c p/m for phone calls anywhere anytime on the data sim. Let's say you phone 200 minutes = R198.

Total R582 (for phone + 200mins + 2GB).

That is unfortunately not the case.
The Data Sim calls cost R1.50 per minute :(.

Has anyone tried the Omega custom rom? Just downloaded it last night and i want to give it a go this weekend.

First thing on my to-do list this weekend is to get away from MTN.
Currently on prepaid, and their rates - there's no nice way to say this - suck.

Re: RBM
Lars Henning said he would keep us up to speed, but I haven't heard from him again.
My old trusty Nokia's screen went fuzzy this morning, so I'll get a R100 cheapie to tide me over until early Feb :D

Pity, I would have preferred this to my suggestion :(

I thought they were dying and now I hear they are releasing new phones with the package.? What is going on?

Perhaps it's time to get in contact with Lars again? Last I read was they'll be launching new phones early Feb.

I'm looking at Wanamlite and Wicked Rom...what are the benefits of Omega Rom? The first two I listed aim to be light, fast and stable, to disable all unwanted/necessary services...

I'm still thinking of this option (FNB Note 2 and data sim only). Considering I make very few calls, I was thinking that the R1.50 per min rate for calling would be acceptable, the data is more important.

What I was thinking is, the Cell C Giga 20 contract at R189 p/m seems better value than the 2GB smartdata contract option? Especially since I don't have access to wifi (yet).

What say the experts?

***stupid question; can you buy airtime on a data-only sim?

You are wrong! It is 99cent per second same price as all Cell C prepaid. I have 2 x 2G x 12 months = 4GB per month on Cell C prepaid (one Sim Card) and buy prepaid minutes when needed at 99 cents.

99cent per second for REAL http://www.cellc.co.za/cell-phone-prepaid/99c-for-real

Double your airtime http://www.cellc.co.za/weekend-special

All in One Voucher http://www.cellc.co.za/shop/vouchers/all-in-one-voucher

http://pcint.co.za/ had a special last month R 800.00 for 2GB Cell C 3G+ data x 12 months prepaid. Not sure if they are still doing it as it was selling fast.

Did any of you notice performance improvements in Omega ROM, especially if you disabled most of the unnecessary apps/services in the AROMA installer?

I'm still in stock 4.1.2...I was in a Drive document once, no fancy formatting/graphics, only 4/5 pages long, and the phones lagged? (Dare I blaspheme as such). Even after a restart...although only at that point...

Since I hadn't done it in ages, for the life of me I can't find the place where you empty your RAM from all running processes - how do I get there again?

But I want to see what a 'lighter' ROM installation will do...my choice oscillates between Omega and Wanamlite.

Otherwise really enjoying the best phone in the world!

If you don't mind me asking, how did you go about installing a custom recovery? My Note 2 is rooted but no recovery installed.

Don't mind you asking :-)

Look here: forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31801060&postcount=2

Got this link off that page where I suppose you also got the 4.1.2 'pre-rooted' firmware. Well it's rooted but no CWM.

I chose option 2 (the only option, really). You'll understand once you visit the page. You just flash a file via odin in the same ol' way.

I got such a fright initially when I realised I only have stock recovery!

Thanks for the link, going to check it out immediately.

Oh btw, what ROM are you going for?

I'll be going for Omega rom, have been using it successfully on my S3 without any issues.

I have a 2Gb Data only Post-Paid sim. The calls are charged at R1.50 per minute.
If you read above, scuzzy talks about the Post-Paid contracts. Where as you are talking about Pre-Paid :).
Read carefully next time bud. :).

This is what i am doing, I make at most, 10 minutes of phone calls a month, yet i use over 1Gb of data.

If its a Pre-Paid sim you can, the contract ones i don't think you can.

Cheers Unnamed. I think I'll be going with this option, but with the Giga 20, which seems a better deal.

hi. some help please. how much data would i need if i take out a note2, bear in mind i have uncapped at home with wifi so all my downloads and updates will be done at home. and i will hardly be using the net on the phone as i have 10gb iburst at my office. basically will just be using whatsapp and a few other apps. and maybe a bit of streaming videos. how much data does streaming a 45min episode at 480p take?

I decided to go full out and load a custom recovery on my Note 2. I opted for Omega rom since that's what I'm using on my S3.

I'm very happy with 4.1.2 and apart from the new features my phone also uses about 150mb less ram.

I would recommend it to anyone that's thinking of trying another rom.
