Samsung Galaxy Note 20

Can you provide a guide
Plenty guides out there. Can be a bit technical first time. It's pretty much the same steps on all Samsung devices.

If you're going to follow the above guide, pay close attention to the following step;

"Note that the regular CSC file will completely wipe the device. In order to preserve the data, simply select the ‘HOME_CSC’ file."

Use Frija to get the latest ROM directly from Samsung using your phones model number.

Does samsung pay still work?
Yes it does.

I see the Android 12 update is out locally for the Note 10. So hopefully not long before it's out for the 20.

Does it matter what country/carrier I select?
Just be aware that you "might"
lose Volte....? (plus wifi calling)
and your inbuilt Hiya spam protection.(Vodacom XFV)

This happened to me in the past, numerous of times, when i flashed with Odin another CSC
These 2x functions is Firmware depended
and Service Provider has to enable it.
I have seen or heard of work around but
creates more issues.
I had to flash back to XFV to get functions back.
Good luck

Thanks, I haven't yet fully committed to flashing. I use a MacBook so I'll have to use my wife's laptop. I think I'll wait till the weekend to see if it gets released, if not, I'll flash it this weekend.

Nearly forgot,
Every time in the past that,
I flashed another CSC
i lost my Service Provider OTA.
I had to each time, flash manually Firmware, as my OTA was "broken"
I must add some users were lucky, in still getting OTA of the new CSC they flashed.

I was not so lucky.
I flashed many different CSC Firmware (re Odin) from my Notes....... 2,3,4,5,8,9 etc in past.
every time I lost OTA.
Had to flash CSC XFV back to get OTA updates again.
Just keep in mind, you actually creating more issues, in jumping to another CSC.
Good luck.

I've used other region firmware files successfully in the past on local S21 handsets and CSC staid on XFA.

Don't think it's possible anymore to change CSC via Odin. I believe the blocked it.

My note 20 ultra is the Snapdragon Version and my CSC is not XFA, it's KOO. VoLTE and VoWifi works without issues. 5G also works.

You right about the CSC.
But I've seen and read of
"work around"in other forums ( that i belong to.)

Also as you said you got a Snapdragon and obviously, have to flash Snapdragon firmware.
If you have a Exynos then obviously you have to flash only Exynos.
I have" seen "many" users flashing wrong firmware.

Bottom line,
I've got nothing against
flashing another CSC... i have done it numerous
times..!
Just that you must be aware that you can create
other issues for you that you did not have before.
Good luck

Absolutely, if you have a exynos device you need to flash exynos and vice versa. I don't think it's possible to flash a Snapdragon firmware onto a exynos device anymore, the check will fail and it will abort before any damage is done.

I usually just sideload via ADB and skip Odin, but ADB might confuse users who haven't flashed yet.

I think Odin is a lot safer to use these days though. Back in the day you could easily brick your phone if you weren't careful :D

S22 series is being launched. Wonder if Samsung SA will bother to do regular software updates with these phones.
I really wish there was someone higher up in Samsung that we could contact to raise our concerns. The fact that a flagship phone doesn't receive updates is just ridiculous.

As a matter of fact I logged a complaint yesterday (10 February 2022) with Samsung Customer Care SA (reference number, given to me.)
I asked to speak with senior management in Customer care department, Samsung SA.
I am awaiting return call ?
I queried the "non" monthly security updates we did not receive and reasons why not.?

Samsung (Taiwan) apparently released security updates for months September, October, November.. 2021 which was not given /released to SA devices (Samsung SA at fault.?)

example...... Samsung SA released these security updates.....
August 2021 security update, then the latest....
(about 4/5 month later ) on the 10 January 2022 ( Dec 2021 security patch )

I also pointed out to them that older devices
eg..
I have a Note 10 + and it has already been updated to Android 12.
I also pointed out to Samsung SA, in complaint,
that as far i can establish, most world regions
have updated their Note series, why not Samsung SA..?

Further... and this is a "joke "...?
regarding Samsung members app and Samsung,
incompetence in dealing with queries!

I asked above questions and in reply,
i received
a answer regarding the procedure
of updates.!
(I know the procedures and did not
solicit this answer from Samsung.

I then queried Samsung again, asking for straight answers etc
In response Samsung send me an update, timetable for devices...!
I did not ask for it..!

So i have personally contacted Samsung SA
and logged a complaint. waiting..!
I do have a reference number.

However that said, when on previous occasion I logged an issue with Samsung SA,
regarding Samsung Pay, on my new Samsung Watch 4, i also got a reference number.
I waited about 10 days, for someone
to contact me..

See my screen shots and replies via Samsung Members app...

Clearly some Samsung employees are either
extremely incompetent.? or what ?
See my query replies in screen shots
Good luck.

I think the problem when you contact customer service is that you get through to someone who is basically a clerk who gets given a set of standard replies to give to customers. They won;t really know how to answer a question about why we don't receive security updates because they simply don't know.

This problem needs to be elevated to the higher ups in Samsung and customers need to be made aware that they are going to get a sub-par software experience as Samsung customers because the company just doesn't bother to keep its phones up to date in SA.

How do we get hold of a staff member at Mybroadband to make them aware of this problem? Maybe an article written about the issue will get some attention.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but our network carriers first test the update? Don't they give the green light?

I mean Vodacom adds their bloat to it. Don't think MTN/Cellc or Telkom add anything though.

You're correct. But the hold up seems to be on Samsungs side. All the networks seem to be releasing the same updates at more or less the same time. If one network was giving regular updates and the other's weren't then we could say that it's the network's fault.

But we're all just randomly getting an update every 3 to 4 months, regardless of network. That suggests that Samsung isn't sending the update to the networks to verify and then push out to users.

Yes, i agree with your post.
I am well aware of this, that speaking to junior staff is a waist of time.
That's the reason i insisted on speaking /escalating my complaint to Senior Management.

I also have spoken on 2 x separate occasions to Senior Management. (late this afternoon.)
I have their names and portfolio positions.
I also have reference numbers of my complaint.
(I logged an complaint not an query.)

Management promise to investigate
and come back to me with results.

I'm sure this complaint will have positive results
even if it's not immediately, the relevant
employees will have to explain to Senior Management..!

So the message should, get to those employees
who is responsible for non security updates.
I also told Management that i am considering
reporting issue to Consumers Council.
that
Samsung International /Taiwan) promise regular security updates
and did not provide these.

I think recently in Germany..? (not sure) Samsung
was reported for not providing regular updates..?
Good luck

You are correct.
In short the buck stop with Samsung SA..!
They are responsible for providing/sending
Updates to Service Provider.
Service providers, then return
the Updates and Samsung SA, test it again
and then release Updates live.
Samsung SA oversees the whole process.
Good luck

Or our networks are just slow? :D

I find it a bit difficult to believe that Samsung SA would hold updates back. My Snapdragon note 20 received the android 12 update in December and I'm currently on the Feb security patch level.

Would be great if mybb could dig deeper as to why updates on SA devices (XFA,XFE,XFV) are always delayed and why some monthly security patches are skipped all together.

My opinion is that "those employees" responsible for the updates, seem to be incompetent of doing their job.?
Told Samsung SA management, also my opinion.

Just a quick example of how incompetent, call staff workers are
This lady told me if Samsung (Taiwan) releases an security patch update
Samsung SA decides if it will release it or not..!
I told this lady that she is talking nonsense.

I later told Senior management, what call center lady said (I have her name)
They then asked for her name and I gave it to them.
Management then admitted if Samsung (Taiwan)
releases a security patch for device, Samsung SA cannot override it and not release it
.
I know that Samsung Taiwan released security patches for September, October and November 2021.. (Checked)
I also told management that I have banking apps, Samsung Pay, Passwords etc on my
device.
This was all put at risk as Samsung did not timeously update/patch our devices!

Good luck
