Samsung Galaxy Note 3

So I got to play with a friends Note 3 LTE yesterday and today alongside my GS4.
Lovely device, I must say, feels a lot more solid and sleek than his Note 2. I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the rectangular shape when dealing with such a large device, I prefer the GS4's bit more rounded shape. Loving the faux leather back though, very nice touch!

The Note 3 has a stunning display, but I kept wondering to myself, why didn't Samsung make better use of the enormous screen real-estate??? Some of the icons look oversized, anyway, other than that I really liked it but doubt I'll ever own one, it is just so huge, I've also noticed that my friend keeps leaving it around the house almost as if its a bit of a burden for him to keep it in his pocket, he won't admit it but I've watched him do this with both his N2 and N3.

Overall, if one can deal with the sheer size of a Note 3 then I say go for it, the UI speed and smoothness, the incredible display, 3GB RAM, fast Camera, solid build quality and best of all the S Pen features make it very enticing, best smartphone around without a doubt. :)

Hi Guys, just a bit a query.... Especially to the users who have used a Note 2 and have upgraded to a Note 3.

I did notice that the s-pen from the Note 2 is slightly more responsive than the Note 3's s-pen.

I have constantly used the Note 2 s-pen since I got the device so maybe that explains it?

Does anyone feel the same way?

I have tried the s-pen on different Note 3's and all feel ever so slightly less responsive than the note 2. (3 of my friends have the note 3 and we tried it out)

The Note 2 stylus however does work flawlessly on my Note 3. Maybe i just need to use it a bit more?

*snip*

Yes that was the first thing that I noticed on the Note 3, but I have got used to it after using my Note 3 for approximately three weeks.

For tha durban ppl, got my cover and screen protector from china city today. Not too grand quality but not bad for now till I find the s view cheaper... and the otg usb works beautiful...

Let us know price and which China Mall, i need to wrap this thing up.

So how about some reviews?
What you like about the Note?
What you do not like about it?

What are the benefits (besides just the size) over the S4

Does it fit into your pocket easily enough, is the size a hindrance or a welcome difference from the S4?

Ok well I have had mine for about a week now and this is how I feel about the device.

I came from the S4 and obvious difference is the size. Personally the size doesn't bother me, I don't have the biggest hands and I can still use the device one handed if I really wanted to but it feels perfect in 2 hands.

The form factor is really nice, it actually feels more comfortable in the hand than the S4. My biggest worry with the S4 was that without a cover it feels very slippery in the hand, while the N3 is much easier to grip and feels more comfortable.

This is my first note so not sure about the last spend feeling, but I am satisfied with the spen. It works well.

Battery is really good, I can easily get 2 days out of a full charge, and thats with pretty heavy usage.

I have had mine (LTE version) for 3 weeks and came from an S2.

Likes:
The overall look and feel. I like the S2-like form and the fake leather look. I never really liked the pebble look of the S4 and the Note is also not as slippery when using with one hand. And yes it is possible to use with one hand contrary to what some reviewers say. There is also a neat one-handed-use function that shrinks the screen.
The display is really great. My S2 looks dull in comparison
The size of the screen for watching videos, multi-tasking and just about anything else.
Battery life is really good. I don't have any worries about my battery dying before the end of the day. With moderate use, I would probably get 2 days.
Camera is probably one of the best out there and the video recording is the best you will find on a mobile phone.
The S Pen features are great for business use. I use the S Pen more than I thought I would.
The multi-tasking features on this phone cannot be matched by any other.
It is super fast, no matter how many apps you have open.

Dislikes
The phone's reception is really bad. In some areas I have no reception where other phones have no problem holding 2 to 3 bars.
The size does take some time to get used to. It is quite a tight fit in some of my pants' pockets (jeans) and does not fit in some of my cycling jerseys, but I got used to it quickly and it does not bother me that much.
I honestly cannot think of any other con.

Except for the reception issue which is a big deal for me (might be that I have a defective device), this phone is great and works brilliantly for what I use it for. If you are not to hung up on the size, I would recommend it over the S4 anyday.

slim armor s view?...

The case is $30, and it has shipping costs (around $40). But I managed to get a few people to order cases as well so we all split the shipping costs.

Its not an s-view case. It covers the back of the phone and I have a screenguard for the front.

I dont really like the s view case. The front flap becomes annoying after a while. Had one on my Note 2.

Hey Grimspoon

I dodnt:-( they only had the originals. I went to vibes who had nice screen protectors at R30 each so I took 5. Then however I took fake View covers from Vibes at R99 each, came home to try them on and surprise surprise, the view functionality doesn't work. Back they go next weekend.

The view functionality only works with the original S-View Covers. Some "clever" guy at another store told me any cover will work as long as it have a magnet in it, so I took mine off and showed him the connector pins on the inside of the S-view cover. As soon as you clip it on your N3 picks it up as a accessory.

The S-View cover with the two connector pins is the normal one then you get one with more connector pins and a "magnet" on the inside of the back cover. That is for wireless charging.
