Just got my Note 3!

Great news, I just got a Note 3, which is a long overdue upgrade since my faithfull S2!

However, I have experienced several unpleasant issues whilst using it for the first hour.

  • App's took forever to install, due to google apps requiring google play services to update, and that app refused to update. Took an hour to fix that.
  • Wifi is unavailable for about 5 minutes before I can use it. It says "Checking the quality of your Internet connection..."
  • The screen appears to be flickering, more under certain brightness settings, as though some cheap low frequency PWM is used to control the brightness.

Has anybody encountered any of these issues, and if so, what are the fixes? I do hope the screen flickering isn't by design, as that really sucks. NONE of my other devices do that, and as I was looking forward to doing some reading on this device, it is pretty disturbing to have noticed this already (I wasn't looking for faults, yet I saw it).

Jeez that sucks man. I am almost a year in and I have had no issues except for small hiccups.

Hope someone with more knowledge can help you out

Not sure about 1 and 3 but for number 2 you need to go into wifi settings, menu, advanced. Turn off auto network switch.
This should help connection to wifi and keep it on wifi

Take it back IMMEDIATELY. They have to swop it out. I've had no issues with mine so far. Mine is almost 8 months old.

That flickering screen is definitely not normal.

It are fukt. Take it back and don't let them pull that "we have to send it in for assessment which takes 17 weeks" crap.

Thanks. Fit is good, that's great.
Pics?

Phone can't do a selfie, but looks almost identical to this.

Except the name and logo is slightly smaller (i.e. obviously not an original, but a darn good copy none the less).

PS, the seller is insisting it is an "OEM" product.

Noob question :)

I'm on stock firmware(rooted) 4.3 and id like to upgrade to 4.4. When using Kies3 to upgrade it gives me a number of cautions most notably 1.Devices that have been rooted or modified with customized software may experience a failure during upgrade process.

Is it advisable to continue?

Thanks

Unroot it and do the update.

I am trying to update my firmware using Kies 3, but it gives error "PC failed to recognize the mobile phone"

Why is this? Phone is plugged in via a USB3 port.. Obviously this is very inconvenient, as it has to redownload the huuuge file everytime I retry it.

Did you install the latest drivers?

You don't need a screen protector.

I know in theory it doesn't but I'm using a shell cover and I like the extra security. Also sand particles are harder than anything so that could damage the gorilla glass.

Did you read the whole article?

"Some common materials can scratch Gorilla Glass. The biggest culprit is sand — if you go to the beach and end up with some sand in your pocket, that sand can rub against your smartphone’s glass screen and scratch it. Hard rocks work similarly — if you drop your smartphone on the ground and it skids along concrete or rocks, there’s a good chance its display will be scratched (among other damage). Other types of glass, rare metals, and very-hard materials like diamonds can also scratch a Gorilla Glass screen."

I live 500m from the beach... It's a must for me.

Anyone downloaded the 27MB odd update on the N900 model yet? - Just received the notification on my phone (Cell C) - have to wait to get home for my wi-fi to download, but I'm curious as to what this update holds. I hope it sorts out the wi-fi reconnect issue I've been having since updating to 4.4.2

I updated but haven't noticed anything different yet. I'm hoping for battery life improvement. I don't have any issues with my WiFi although I don't use it often
