That's 1500 less than buying the phone prepaid on takealot.
All that tells me is that the launch price is going to drop quickly, like it often does with samsung phones. Note 20u was 37k when it first launched here, price dropped to 30k in about a month.
Nice to see that we're getting the SD version for once. My main concern is how poor the software update experience has been with note 20u. Samsung SA simply don't support their flagship phones enough. Security updates only come through every 3-4 months and we still don't have one ui 4 in SA, even though it is available on the note 10 series.

Going to pre order mine seeing that my 2019 Samsung S10+ battery has started to swell. Its time for retirement.
Pro is that Samsung will support the S22 for 4 years. CON no Sd slot hopefully they start off with the 256GB like they did with the S21 +

Telkom were offering the S21 Ultra at the same price in Jan. I was hoping to get the S21 Ultra at a reduced contract price one the S22 Ultra got released but it seems like they just discontinued them now. I guess ill take the S22 now.

I guess they’re also considering how many of them they’re going to realistically sell in such a small market. The S22 Ultra is going to be extremely niche. What do the numbers look like for the S22 and S22+?
The Ultra is not niche. In the US, it made up 40% of all S21 sales. I don't think SA is much different.
The markup is quite similar on the other S22 & S22+

The launch price for s22u is 26500, not 29k
Decided to check prices on Amazon. With taxes and shipping, the S22 ultra comes to 23054 at exchange rate of 15.44.
That's only about 3500 less. No Buds pro included though and I don't know if the warranty is intact for an imported phone. So 26500 is actually pretty reasonable, especially now that we are getting the snapdragon phone like the Americans. If we were still getting exynos then it may have been worth it to import the phone.
There is the option of buying the 128gb/8gn version of the phone from amazon, though, which is not available in SA - that comes to about 23k. Don't think it's worth getting though.

The Ultra is the new Note - it’s huge. As for the S21 Ultra, Samsung eventually had to include an S Pen because it wasn’t moving enough numbers. The S21 range as a whole did quite badly worldwide because the majority of Android users have moved over to cheaper Chinese brands (especially in markets like South Africa) - it did even worse than the S20 and S10.
Samsung does need to start checking its pricing, though: the iPhone 13 was cheaper than a year old S21, and if even Apple are adjusting their pricing, you know something’s not right.

It states that the pre order offer will be redeemable via the Samsung members app, and is only valid from 9 Feb - 10 March 2022. But the phone only releases on the 11th of March ?
Vodacom has their offer as valid from 11 March - 31March 2022. Do you guys think Telkom made a mistake here ? Surely the redemption period will be the same for everyone in SA.
