I have the LTE version. Great phone but really want to root. Latest firmware i've read you cant reset any counters.
Would this totally screw up ADH?

No. Apparently the guys at Samsung doesn't really check the counters when they replace the screen or board. It is a risk, but one you can take (based on the experiences of others).

My i9500 (Exynos) phone was rooted about 3 days after I got it... I dropped it and shattered the screen approx 8 months later...

Samsung replaced the screen and it was still rooted when I got it back...

What does a paranoid man do when he buys an S4 (first Android device) and then doesn't want to agree to all the ridiculous access required by just about every single app. I was so excited about getting this phone and now I barely use the "smart" features.

I've heard of a ROM for paranoids but I'm not sure that will resolve the issue.

Anyone on the Vodacom network having issues after the latest update?

A buddy of mine has one, stock 4.4.2 and says he is having issues saving gmail attachments since the latest Vodacom update.

Just trying to help him out.

Get yourself a tinfoil hat, or just get a Nokia 3310.

my phone just decided to go into a constant reboot cycle? any ideas? tried pulling out the battery and putting it back in.
at the moment as soon as you put the battery in, it starts going into a loop of the samsung logo, on and off.

Have you tried booting into safe mode? From what I've read it could also be related to a corrupt sdcard or a swollen battery.

Its sounds as if your phone is soft bricked. Nothing too worry about, unless you dont have backups.

Is your phone rooted? If yes, you'll need to flash the stock rom via odin in download mode to get out of the boot loop, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265477

If its not rooted and I presume you dont want to over complicate things you need to book the phone in for repairs

After about 12 months of use I had to say goodbye to my trusty i9500.

It was my 1st phone that I rooted, and also played around with custom roms. I pretty much flashed every rom I could get my hands on until I found Omega v15. I stuck to the Omega rom straight through to v24, and loved every moment.

Moving on to the oneplus 1, hopefully it will live up the the hype!

Yes.

Try this: with the usb cable plugged in, insert the battery while somehow still holding in down+home and pressing power. As soon as the screen goes black remove the battery.

You need to time this right before the loop starts.

Don't worry about power, the usb power will keep the phome going until you've flashed your new firmware.

Rinse and repeat until you get it to the download mode

No, that's download mode (where you connect to Odin on your PC). Safe mode is more like Windows' safe mode (where only basic apps are loaded).

Have now tried to google the process for getting an S4 into safe mode, but none of the suggestions worked for me. Strange, because I know I've done it before...

In any case, flashing stock like the other posters suggested might also work. I would just have tried eliminating obvious hardware problems first.

Good luck!

Don't have back ups or the time to mess with it, will have to run it into Samsung on Thursday. It wasn't rooted either.
