Hi All,

First off sorry for posting this if it's in the wrong section, but just seems to be the right place as the problem appears to be with the handset.

I have a 2013 VW Polo Vivo which has integrated bluetooth to the stereo. This has worked fine with my previous Blackberry 8520 and Sansung Galaxy S3. Yesterday i tried pairing my new Galaxy S5 with the VWs bluetooth, it pairs fine but after a few seconds there is a loud thump from the speakers and the stereo turns off. When powering it back on with the phones bluetooth on it appears to be starting in safe mode. With the phones bluetooth off the stereo starts up normally.

Has anyone else experienced this and hopefully managed to resolve it? The reason i ask is i do a lot of travelling for work and often need to answer calls while driving, so this could be a potential issue for me.

Thanks in advance.

In Bluetooth settings disable media audio, see if that makes a difference. only down side is you won't be able to play music over the Bluetooth, I had to do the same thing after every time I received a notification my radio would mute, calls still work fine though

It's a bit of a wierd problem, all i do is connect it via bluetooth and this happens regardless of trying to play music or receiving a call. It doesn't mute the system, it sounds like it overloads it and shuts it off uncleanly. It takes about five to ten seconds before this happens, the loud thump and then the stereo goes dead and i have to power it back on.

I have a feeling that sound is being pushed by the phone through the media audio system in the Bluetooth, give it a try and see what happens?

Hi all. I also have the same with 2013 polo vivo. I contacted a VW dealer and managed to test with the 2014 model, it works perfectly without any settings modification. This is clearly an issue of firmware on there radios. I have tested the S5 on other brands as well and it works fine.

I am in the process of getting mine fixed as this is clearly a problem. I shall post more details tomorrow after my car has been checked out.

Hi,

I also had BT issues with my BB 9900 and my Audi A6, my BT worked on A4, so i assumed the issue was with the car, so i took it in, and Audi confirmed latest firmware was installed. They even were willing to swop the whole infotainment system to fix the problem.

I went home one day, update the firmware on my phone, and from there on no problems. On getting my Q7, ive tested the older phone firmware, and same problem.

Audi had a list of compatible phones, just make sure with VAG, they support it (VW in Germany)

It's not always the car!

Other thing to check is to deselect all the bluetooth profiles that you don't use on the phone, as that can also cause issues!

Regards,

Hi all

I had my device swapped out this morning, its working so far. I will report any news as it arises.

My phone (Samsung 4S) and car radio (VW Polo vivo 2013) worked fine from the time I bought it til now.

I had to reset my phone due to it getting flaky and now I get the two mins of connectivity followed by the 'THUMP' and restart radio scenario.

Seems I might need to update my phone operating system. Wonder why it has not automatically told me it needs to be upgraded if it restored the phone to a previous OS version?

Hi all

A quick update. My Bluetooth is working fine. Its not an issue with the phone. It turns out that the firmware on the actual radio varies with the batch and time it was manufactured. My radio was ordered from Germany and replaced by VW. Should your dealer give you the run around, I suggest you lodge a complaint with VW South Africa for a more speedy response.

Hi all,

I'm having the same issue now.
It used to work on the stock firmware of my Samsung Galaxy S4 then I decided to try out the Omega software (v24) and it doesn't work, connects, after a couple of seconds it goes THUMP and radio in car switches off and starts up in SAFE mode.
My car is a VW Polo Vivo 2013.
This morning, I decided to upgrade the Omega software to v26 and it still does it.

However, to test, I connected my girlfriends Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini to my car bluetooth, works like a charm.

Something you can check, go throug the BT profile, and disable everything except headset, on the phone. Connect to car and test, then add the phonebook, and see if it stay connected, etc.

My wife had this issue in her Vivo with her S5.

When connecting bluetooth do not allow contact sync - that's how I managed to fix it, doesn't happen anymore.

Blunt, yeah, this fixed the issue, it doesn't do that anymore on my Samsung Galaxy S4.
So happy that it's finally fixed.

Though, to mention, my S4 is now running Omega v26, when it was running the original firmware, I didn't have to say no to that specific option when connecting - it just worked - now I obviously have to in order for it to work.
On my GF's S5 Mini - Yes or no, it works.

Strange but true.

Thanks so much for this, it fixed my problem as well. VW Polo Vivo and a Samsung S4. It used to work until I installed 5.0 Lollipop then I got the same problem with the radio switching off. Found your post after some googling, then tried again without allowing contact sync and voila! Fixed. :D

This is absolutely ridiculous. After 4 months of waiting I finally get a call from Saku stating he just set up for my car to go in on Tuesday as that Rene can only fit me in then and I have to drive the car there. This is disgusting. It has taken vw sa 4 months to make a booking on my behalf and on top of that lying to me as apparently Rene isn’t always there, which I know he is. Paul, the most useless manager in the world has not bothered to call me back once out of the 3 messages I have left for him. Now I must take my car in to accommodate VW Woodmead, when last time they would fetch it seeming as I have been there 7 times this year. I feel sick when dealing with this horrible company and I’m tired of being treated like a clown. After telling Saku that I refuse to bring my car in they must fetch it like last time as I have accommodated them enough, he said he can’t tell them to do that, which is fine, so I asked for Paul to finally return a call and I was told that he will not call me. So again it’s my god dam problem to deal with these idiots. If you don’t want to help a client who is on a full service and warranty then tell me so I can take legal action. This is utterly disgusting in service and just because I drive a low costing car doesn’t mean I don’t deserve the same treatment as a Golf R driver. I’m over the **** service given and have emailed my lawyer all past posts on this page, all emails that haven’t been replied to, and all call logs to VW from my work / and cell number. I will make VW’s life a living hell until I get my polo vivo 1.4’s Bluetooth working with both media and calls. Now I will be posting this on as many forums and social media sites as I know how to show SA what the true colour of VW is in sa. Bunch of useless and disgusting people that don’t care about their customers.

Have you tried following Blunt's advice yet?

SOLVED IT! (Very simply, actually!)

I had been struggling with the same problem of my phone connecting to my VW 2012 Polo Vivo's audio system via Bluetooth and the radio making a loud thump (startling me every time) and going into a supposed safe mode.

The problem only started after I had formatted and updated and restored my Samsung Galaxy S4 mini (because it had been incredibly slow and laggy of late). The frustration was so terrible, and I tried what people proposed on this forum as well, but to no avail.

One thing that I did notice that, probably due to all the back ups and restoration on my phone, several of the numbers in my phone book was in duplicate, triplicate (and even quadruplicate). I wondered if the 4000+ contacts that had to be copied to the audio system's memory for dialing from it might have been the cause of all the upsets. Maybe just a memory overload? It made sense to me that 4000+ contacts in my phone book might have been a tad too much for the audio system to handle.

I got started and manually deleted all the duplicates, and I was back to a managable amount of contacts.

I braced myself and connected my phone via Bluetooth. 5 seconds passed...no thump. 1 minute pased, still no thump, 10 minutes...still no thump

EUREKA!!

Hi guys

I have a similar headache, only recently bought a 2011 Vivo, and used the BT function to play music off my phone a few times, was also getting the thump sound and resuming in safe mode to reconnect with my S5, and continue playing music.

Yesterday though, after it had switched off and resumed in safe mode, the player seems to have frozen with 4 digits on the display. No music plays and i can't change to FM, USB or CD. I've pressed all the buttons and nothing happens, only the power on/off works and the numerical buttons. The display reflects "1000", can update to whatever numerical buttons i press. The phone is no longer connecting and I really have no idea on what to do.

Any ideas?
